Do you watch ugly betty? it's been hailed as a great show which fights for the plain underdog. it's great that hollywood has produced something like this (is there a grammy equivalent to oscar's hollywood?) but don't you find that the show still has only one ugly person? and she is deliberately made ugly.
I've seen photos of america ferrera in person, and she looks NOTHING like betty. if they wanted to make a show to really tell youths that they don't have to be beautiful to succeed, or to be popular, then perhaps the show could have more realistic looking people all around? at least 50%?
ultimately, viewership ratings still count. that's the sad reality in the world. So they have to put the beautiful people in so that others will watch. part of why teenagers cannot accept themselves is because they are bombarded with glamour in TV and on print. in real life, only 10% of the ppl look gorgeous with genetically slim and tall proportions. On TV, it's usually the other way around.
Possible for TV to have more realistic looking folk throughout?

I watched a few episodes. It is quite funny at times but its morality stories sometimes do border on being cliche. I just hope they do not go down the path of desperate housewives - irrevocably drama queens with thick insane plots that are hard to swallow.
