Racism, although condemned supposedly by all is still very much alive in even the most developed of countries. It is evident from incidents such as the recent Big Brother incident involving Shilpa Shetty in the UK or the hordes of racial slurs by Australian cricketers and even the assaults on Arabs, Pakistanis and Indians in the USA.
The question is not whether it is immoral or unethical, which has already been established beyond doubt, but whether it will continue to rear its ugly head in todays more developed world ?

I agree with you. But the main thing racism exists is because the so-called upper class people are afraid of being overtaken by their counter parts. If they learn to share then this racism will be reduced to dust.

I disagree with you that racism is only a problem due to upper classes. Most racial incidents in countries such as UK , USA and Australia are provoked by middle or lower middle class people. Racism is about a perception of superiority and it is this perception which needs to be eliminated.

i agree with you too.People from the western world and higher developed countries are so obsessed with power and economical status that we will often use racial comments to prove our superiority over our 'competitors'.this is unfair, but it all stems from the raw human instinct which is the quest for survival.we will always oppose those who we feel are a threat to our social position.I dont agree with racism at all,but i have made passing comments before based on someone's race, usually in the heat of the moment and i will not hide that.it proves that subconsciously we are all judgemental of race,i just think that some of us wont accept that they are intimidated by different races for fear of creating hostility. As long as the human race stays here, there will always be racial tension-it doesnt mean it's active.it's ingrained in the mind.

IMO, asking if racism will ever die is like asking if all the religions will ever get along...I highly doubt it..which is a very sad reality really...but lets face it, regardless of what country or culture one is from..ppl in general all around the world have that crazy need to hate 'something' ya know...and ppl in generally hate what they fear and dont understand and what they fear they try to destroy so until those same ppl pull their heads outof their bottoms and put in a genuine effort, they'll never stop fearing/hating which in turn means they'll never stop destroying....So no, I doubt racism will ever die.

Well you are right about the part that people will fear what they don't understand. But in todays globalized world all youngsters being born are generally exposed to most kinds of cultures. Racism probably started when there was a cultural shock as people came into contact with each other. Neither could fathom how the other could be so different both in appearance and in behaviour. Therefore I feel that in the future racism might become extinct.

I think racism is very bad. Even though I don't know many racists... or any at all, we still think its funny to make racist jokes. EVen some of the other races love to hear those jokes, you'd be suprised. But I think its also offensive, and you have to be careful what you say and do. But yes, I frown upon racism.
