Good morning Sidbanerjee,
In today's world, 60 years of age is what 80+ used to be. People are living longer, and staying healthier due to better living standards, pharmacology, medicine, and focus on health and nutrition. There are many, many people who are fit, healthy, and very active in there 70s and 80s, some beyond.
I used to think the same way when I was younger. Now I'm in my forties, and it just keeps getting better. As we age, everything might not work as well as it did when we were twenty, but that doesn't mean that we can't enjoy ourselves, and be very productive. One of the things that will likely make you change your mind is exactly that -- your mind. As we get older, and accumulate wisdom our minds expand to appreciate a broader range of activities and possibilities.
So, 'careful what you ask for. You might just get your wish, and miss out on all that life has to offer after the toil and stress of youth.

Thats an interesting piece of advice. You are probably right about the fact that I will probably change my opinion as I grow older. And maybe by the time I am 60 medicine will have advanced so much that my organs actually wont pack up and I can continue to live and enjoy a healthy life.Lets see what happens !

why, you as a person can make your body stay good for along time. keep it healthy and clean. my husbands grandmother lived till 92 and only a few years before you passed on did her body start to give way. you should live and enjoy it.

Yes that is true, I am a bit of a fitness freak and do try to keep in shape but am very afraid if I will continue to stay fit as I grow older. I really see no point in living if I have to depend on external life support or some such thing.

you know what, i used to have the same thought..
but i wanted to die a little bit younger that what you chose for your age..
i wanted to die by the age of 50..
but when i turned 18, i suddenly changed my mind..i mean, we may have all these plans but the decision that prevails is of God's..also, i want to live seeing my grandchildren..
besides, i suppose i'll have my pension and maybe i'll just hire someone to do the house work for me so i can enjoy my retirement..^_^
what do you think??

Yes I guess you can enjoy retirement but what will be left to enjoy. We shall have experienced almost everything life has to offer ! Maybe there will be a few things to do after retiring after all ! What I plan t do is retire by 50 and spend 10 years travelling the world so that I can die peacefully having experienced a good life.

Thtat totally depends on if you have family and children/grandchildren. And I know a lot of people who are well over 60 and are not depended on others and live life to the fulliest.

That is nice to hear . Maybe I should revise my estimates to around 65 or 70. Actually it also depends on how my fitness remains as I grow older . You are also right about the family part. Probably I will want to live longer if I have lovely little children and grandchildren !

I kinda feel th same way. I really dont want to have to deoend on other people or machines. The thought of that makes me defo want to die before i'm old. The only thing which makes me want to be old is that i cant complain as much as i like and annoy people but no one will do anything cos i'm old :P

Yes, I want To die before others want me to die. Yes, It is a fact that by reaching around 60 or 65 a man starts to depend on other. He has to depend on others if he likes or not. It is a miserable Period of life and a period where people starts taunting and laughing on you. SHAKESPEAR has described It in his poem THE SEVEN AGES OF MAN. He has called it the second childisgness and even more worse than that. So, I want to live as long as I can live on my own.

I just wonder, when you reach 58 or 59, and you are still up and about, very active and enjoying life, would you still wish to live until 60 only?
60 is still considered quite young in today's context. Many people nowadays live till 80s or 90s. At 60, I will still want to enjoy life and travel the world, though I will take things at a slower pace. Maybe I cannot climb mountains or jog like I used to, but certainly I will be at a point in my life where I may start to live life without the stresses of working.
