What Job Wouldn't You Do?

It is often said that the reason we need illegal aliens in the U.S. is because there are jobs most Americans just won't do. I can think of a few jobs I've absolutely hated, some of them I was one of the few people there who spoke English. I admit, I'd rather not go back to some of those jobs. Potting Saplings, the Lifetime Products factory production line, a lumper, a grocery bagger... These are a few of my (least) favorite things. What about you, is there a job you just wouldn't do?

There jobs that I have done that were pretty bad, but the thing is that if you want the money bad enough then you will do what it takes to get it. Some things I did for free because it was a family thing, and as family we didn't usually charge each other. Sometimes if one of us was in a tight spot we would help them out and then work in return. I have cleaned hog-houses, mucked stalls, cut grass, busboy, dishwasher, frycook, cleaned grease-traps, farmed, cut logs, hauled hay, worked in a sawmill, did a stint in the Army, worked several factory jobs, built pole barns, long-haul trucking, painted steel, and had a career in Corrections. If I could work, there are a few of those I would rather not do again, but if I needed the money, then I would work where I could. There are a lot of people who think a job is beneath them and are waiting for the right one to come along. I know a few of them. They don't yet realize that it is very rare for a good job to find you. Meanwhile they let pride stand in the way of making some money. If people want a job bad enough, then there are jobs to be had.

I think most Americans would do pretty much any job, if they were in a position where they HAD to. I think most Americans won't do the "icky" jobs simply because there is easier money out there.

I just remembered a show I watched a lot before we canceled the cable. It was called Dirty Jobs or something. I can't remember the guys name, but he goes around and works for a day on different jobs in front of the cameras. It was really good and a lot of times the Icky Factor was way off the charts.

I couldn't work in any type of meat packing plant. Or behind the scenes in fast food restaurants. I love my steaks and burgers too much to know how they really get from old Elsie to my plate. Same with chicken or pork. I also could never do any job that involved taking my clothes off or anything illegal. Anything else I would try for a day, depending on the money.

I couldn't work at a fast food place either. I would be grossed out at what they do to the food and what is back behind the counter. You'd think that would make me eat out less, but it doesn't. I just choose carefully where to eat.

You might be surprised to hear, but the meat packing industry is ultra clean now. Slauterhouses even have veteranarians on staff. It's not like it used to be... or how PETA paints it. That being said, I don't know if I would want to work in one anyway. As far as the fast food "behind the scenes", you're right, we don't want to know. ;~D

I was thinking on this and the different jobs that I've done and have been willing to do, I mean applying for. Back when I could work I would have done any job that paid me money. I wasn't that picky. Now due to being disabled I'm not able to but back when I could I applied for factory work, I've done nursing home and taking care of the sick, I've done dietry and such, cashiering, you name it. I'd have done it. I even looked at working at a rat farm. That's one reason I cannot understand why they say Americans won't do the job. They will do the jobs. The problem comes in we won't do them for substandard pay (below minimum wage) or in unsafe working conditions. Illegals will because they can't complain about it and that is why most will hire them.

I don't know, I think most Americans wouldn't do some jobs "for all the money in the world"... mostly because there is easier money to be made.

See I think just the opposite most would rather work then not work. If that means working at a factory they will or cleaning bathrooms, been there, done that. Picking up garbage etc have all been done by Americans at one time or another.

True, but now that almost all of us have a choice, we are pickier... because our economy allows us to be.

I would never work as an executioner..... it wouldn't matter how much it paid, how desperate I was for money or even how "guilty" the person to be executed could be proven to be. I'm curious, what is a lumper?

I would never ever work at a dentist. I just hate the sound of the drill and I dislike the atmosphere of such a place. I would hate to see all these suffering and scared people. I would think I am wasting my life in an ugly place. So please no job at a dentist.

yes ....we are spoiled! To much for too long! American would fall Flat on its Face, without the Illegals! I've cleaned the washrooms at a factory and enjoyed it! Honest work is good for the Soul. But I can remember as a Kid pulling all the weeds by hand in a Big Garden. I soon got tired of that! So I've Honestly never had a Job I wouldn't do. Some i liked better that others. How about cleaning out a Pigpen in bare feet?

America would do fine without illegals. However, without Legal immigrants we might suffer a bit. No one needs people who think the law shoudn't apply to them.

my friends once laughed at me when i told them.. i wanna try a life of a saleslady, or a bagger or a streetsweeper. and yup, crazy, huh? i am a pharmacist and i love my job so much. however, there are times when i wonder what if's in life. anyway, back to your question... what job i wouldn't want to do... a telemarketer for sure. i do believe that i don't have the convincing power in selling items. i just can't do it. and so, it's the job i really don't want to do.

I think everyone has his dream job. I spent years in my education so a job that is related to my experience and education is the most attractive one. I think every job is good but I am getting a bit upset if I have to do works such as cleaning and lifting works. I am also not fond of factory works.

Working is good, but not every job is a good one. Staying in a job you hate so much it's killing you, isn't worth the money.

If I had a better back, I would be a grocery bagger, although I'm not sure if they let females do that. What jobs I wouldn't do would include working at a sewer, cleaning the city streets, and doing exterminations. I see a lot of citizens who do all three of those though, although I'm sure some illegal aliens probably work at those too.

Been there, done that one! I cleaned the bathrooms when I worked at Sears Cafeteria in the Clearwater Mall. That's where I first learned (and other experiences re-enforced it) that women's bathrooms are usually much messier than mens!

I have really thought about this one. Of course I'm much older now and there might be a few thing I can't do. It's not that I wouldn't do them, but I'm afraid there are a lot of jobs that our younger kids, maybe from age 18 to 30 wouldn't consider doing. I can't see my nephew picking tomatoes or peaches for a living. He thinks he's much better than that. I can't see my neice with a baby on her back picking cucumbers either. As for me, I can't se me doing a lot of things anymore but I would sure like the opportunity to try. At this rate, no one will have the opportunity soon.

I think the only job I wouldn't do is something illegal. If I was hungry enough, I would work in a nursing home changing diapers or any other job to eat. I think, if given the chance, most Americans would work just about any job to eat. There just aren't that many left.

That's the thing, most Americans won't take any job just to eat because our society is going so well, we can afford to be picky.

There is not enough money in the world to make me be a maid.I wouldn't work on a farm.Or I wouldn't work in a factory. So I am glad there is someone who will work these jobs, illegal or not.

I have worked in factories... I hated it because there was no difference between me and the machines I was operating. I've done my share of farm work, I could go back to it if I had to. After my time in the Army, I guess I could make a pretty good maid... but I'd rather not. ;~D

There was one job that i said i just wouldnt do and it was at a fish processing plant it was just plan gross. The smell was awful make you just gag. But in my community what you just wont do dont seem to matter we are lacking jobs in a big way so like it or not u will do it. So i did whether i like it or not spent sometime doing what i wouldnt do. Sometimes there are no other choices in the matter although it is nice to be able to choose not to.

Yeah, limited choices does work against the whole, "I'd never" concept. Your right though, choosing not to do something is a great freedom.
