Well... Liverpool Went Down Tonight... All Credit To Inter Milan!

Liverpool's bid for the Championship League Cup finally died tonight, as Inter-Milan romped home 2-1 winners, in Athens.
They didn't have it all their own way though. This was an exciting final and one which Liverpool started off with excellent skill, being on top for forty odd minutes of the first half. They had several shots on goal, and fought for the ball, playing some skillful football.
Then, a stupid thing happened... with only a couple of minutes to go to half-time, a Milan player was fouled just outside the box. Free kick... I was hiding my eyes. Liverpool had played so well, and looked like winning the game, but here they were, with a wall facing the spot where the ball had been lain. Needless to say, Inter-Milan scored from this free kick, right on half-time.
I'm sure they received a good talking-to when they went into the dressing room for the break, but they came out for the second half, and Inter-Milan, elated by their goal, played a better second half. There was a bit of time wasting on their part but, on the whole, they played better in the second forty-five minutes. Milan scored a second goal a little way into the second half, and Liverpool couldn't seem to get their momentum going again, but eventually with just over a minute to play, they scored, making it 2-1. Three minutes injury time was added but this wasn't enough time for the mighty reds.
The whistle blew for time... perhaps a few seconds early but they wouldn't have made any difference to the result. I'm sad that Liverpool didn't make it this time, but all credit to Inter Milan, Championship Cup Winners 2007. Commiserations, Liverpool, but it only takes one, absent-minded tackle to change the game. Good luck next year.
Way To Go, Inter Milan.
What did you guys think of the final? Did you watch it live, or on the T.V? Do you think Inter deserved to win, or do you think Liverpool deserved more after their first-half performance?

How can you make such a big error ?!?!?!?!?! AC Milan deserved the win ! Although Liverpool had it's chances, they didn't convert them. And great finishing by Inzaghi on both occasions :). He is a great player !

Sheeeeesh!!! You're hard to please. I apologised more than once! Beside, I have a real excuse, in that even though I watched the whole match, I am BLONDE. We're supposed to be stupid according to the rest of you, so I rest my case. Te he he he!
You seem to have seen the game exactly as I did, almost word for word, so thank you for your response... and brightest blessings.

Apology accepted, lol, but I was only joking with you Tips... sorry from me also! :-)
Yes, I love to watch football. I prefer to go along to the grounds and watch because the atmosphere is out of this world... but, I had to watch the Championship Final on TV. Like you, I watched the whole game, and feel that if Liverpool could only have scored a couple of goals in the first half, they may have got the edge, and won the game. But, it was not to be.
Brightest Blessings for a wonderful day!

I'm sorry ! I didn't mean to mock at you. Do you watch football regularly apart from the EPL ?
Yes, I watched the whole match live on T.V. It was a great game. Liverpool's passing was awesome, but they couldn't end their flamboyant passes as goals. Gerrard, Riise and others missed a few chances which proved to be costly for the team. And I watched the match with my friend. He is a HUGE Liverpool fan and I chose to support AC Milan just to tease him. :P
My apologies, once again.

Well my friend like you said it was an exciting final in which AC Milan defeated liverpool to emerge as european champions. All credit to AC Milan who played superbly and skilfully to emerge triumphant by scoring two goals to one against them. Cheers folks :)

I agree... it was a really exciting game, especially towards the end, when Liverpool scored their goal, and all credit to AC Milan. Liverpool played really well in the first half, but that's not what the game's about, unless you just want to entertain the crowd to some good football. They didn't take their chances well, and they made one the end of the first half. A stupid foul! From there, AC Milan took their chances and won the game, and deservedly so!
So, bad luck Liverpool, but the better team on the night won an excellently fought final. Way to go Milan!

I watched it on TV. It was great.. I have to say it's a bit harsh for Liverpool, because all the luck was on AC Milan's side.. But that was what happened in 2005 for Liverpool... I guess we can say that they're even now... anyway, being an AC Milan fan, I am thrilled about last night's win.. Forza Milan!!!

I guess there was a little bit of luck, but you have to get the ball in the back of the net when you have the chances. Liverpool failed to take their chances, so all credit to Milan for battling on and taking their chances.
That's what makes champions. I wanted Liverpool to win, just because I'm English but I know a good game when I see one, and that was one heck of a game!
Brightest Blessings.

As a Liverpool supporter I was dissapointed. We watched the game live on the TV. I have to say that Liverpool didn't really deserve to win it, and all credit to Milan they did what they needed to do well. Liverpool looked the better team in the first half. Milan got a bit lucky with a deflection which was Inzaghi (sp?) who scored it from a free kick. In the second half Milan were the better team. Liverpool left it too late to get back into the game. I was surprised not to see Craig Bellamy being substituted on the pitch. It wasn't to be, so well done and congratulations to AC Milan.
Theres always next year, Liverpool. Come On you re-edddddddds! lol.

I'm not a Liverpool supporter as such... I support Leeds and the least said about that at the moment, the better! ha ha ha. However, out of the Premiership teams, Liverpool are my favourite and being they were the last English hope in Europe, I was right behind them!
Everything else you say, is quite right. If Liverpool had taken their chances in he first half, then they would probably have had more chance of winning the game. But... it wasn't meant to be, and Milan romped home, after a well-fought, exciting game of football.
Liverpool walk on... and next year will be a different story but I wish them luck in reaching the final again, then!

as a fan, i was disappointed. especially since the lads played their guts out. rafa's last ditch attempts to load on the strikers unfortunately left gaps in defence, leading to the sucker punch second milan goal. the ball basically just rolled slowly into goal once pepe was foiled. when it's just down to you and the keeper, and with a wily striker like inzaghi, it's really tough. what were the trio of defenders nearby doing? they looked like they didn't even realise that inzaghi had escaped with the ball goalwards. kudos to kaka of course, for detecting inzaghi and precisely delivering the ball.
rather sore with the ref's decision to end the game 15 seconds ahead of time. ok ok so it might not have made a difference. but pool has an amazing way of making comebacks. they have fire in their bellies. only time was not on their side. and with the time wastign of the substition DURING injury, that just piled on salt to the injury (pun intended). if more time was added, at the ref's discretion to only blow after, say, 4 mins, then they Just MIGHT have scored. nothing is impossible. at least i have that sorta faith in the lads.
I suppose I won't way pool deserved to win. They played really well, so there was no shame in the loss. just a defensive lapse and some tough luck from well-timed milan goals. with goals in timing like these, it was hard to emerge victorious.

Yes, Liverpool do tend to make comebacks right on the very last whistle, but really, I don't think fifteen seconds made any difference to this match whatsoever. It's not worth arguing about.
As a supporter... don't be down that Liverpool didn't win... be proud that they had the chance to... they were in the final... again... and I'm sure they'll give it a good go next year as well. They're big in Euruope. Be happy and proud of your team!!!

Well, Liverpool certainly played better for forty minutes of the first half... they had the ball in their end almost all of the time... but, and this is the one big separator.. they did NOT take their chances and get the ball in the back of the net.
All credit to Milan for taking the quick chances when they presented themselves. Brightest blessings for a happy day!
