There's a song out currently by Heartland called "I Loved Her First." It's actually about a father giving his daughter away at her wedding. Although I'm a mom and not a dad, this song brings tears to my eyes every single time. I think it's mostly because my older daughter has been dating a boy to whom we strongly and seriously object (he is verbally and emotionally abusive) and she is bound and determined to defy us and see him anyway. She thinks she's in love... I guess the same way so many of us did at that age -- not having the life experience to know any better. But some of the lyrics of the Heartland song just tear at my gut... such as:
"I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep"
or
"Someday you might know what I'm going through
When a miracle smiles up at you
I loved her first"
I guess I feel like I'm fighting to keep her safe right now... she was my first baby (and always will be). When that song comes on, I either have myself a good cry -- or I have to turn it off. Depends on the moment.

Awww thanks for your thoughtful response, donsky :) I appreciate your good wishes and I hope, too, that everything will turn out "right". I'm doing my best to have that happen.
I was thinking after I posted that all of those "wedding songs" are pretty "weepy" anyway LOL For instance, "Butterfly Kisses"... that one made everyone cry! And, at most weddings I've been to, if the father/daughter dance used the song called "Daddy's Little Girl", there wasn't a dry eye in the place!
I actually think it's good that music can reach people so deeply and personally. If it makes you cry, it's touched you -- and I think that's what all artists are striving to do :) Nice posting with you!

I would probably feel the same way if I had a daughter...I mean, I am kinda protective when it comes to my cousins...especially with things like that. I love them and I want the best for them.
Uhm, just hang on there. Ü . I'm sure someday she'll realize that you're right and she's not. good luck in your situation.

Jocelyn Enriquez' 'Someone Like You' song always makes me cry, I wish you guys could hear it. It's very sentimental and is passionately sang. Reminds me of the time I was broken hearted. It's really very painful to lose someone you've been loving for a long time.
But I'm ok now, the topic just reminds me of that moment.

I don't remember the name of the song, but it only comes on at Christmas time. It is this little girl singing to Jesus about what has happened to her. It starts out like Dear Mr Jesus. It is the sadest song I have ever heard in my entire life. I still cry every single time I hear it.
I also cry when I hear the song Don't Take The Girl by Tim Mcgraw. I am not a fan of country music by that song is awsome. I cry when I hear it also.
