Middle-child syndrome is the condition wherein a second child feels like his parents don't give him the attention he deserves. When he was still the youngest child, he has all the attention but once a new baby is born, all that attention is now diverted to him. The middle child's older sibling probably felt the same way too when the middle child was born, but the difference is that the parents tend to still place a premium on the eldest child because he was their first child and he will be the first to go to school, to graduate, etc. The youngest child will be the recipient of most of the attention because he is still young and he needs it. The middle child is, well, left in the middle, with no one paying attention to him. He gets depressed and will start to call for attention, but his parents will usually tell him to keep quiet because the baby is sleeping. He will get really jealous of his siblings, and this is when middle-child syndrome develops.
Well, that's what I remember at least. I was still in high school when we took this up, and now I'm a college graduate.
