Active holidays or relaxing and laid back holidays for you?

My family and i love active holidays. My two boys aged 6 and 3 are still too young to go for a full hiking trip. But we did manage a little 'baby' hike on Kintamani, Bali. We also manage to go snorkelling while we were in Nusa Dua, Bali. Our first ever snorkelling trip was in Malaysia. We are thinking of going to another part of Malaysia for our coming Snorkelling and other sea sports trip. We love eco holidays as well as eco adventure. But we also want our holiday to be fun and exciting for our young kids. Do you have any suggestions? Have you gone snorkelling before? Scuba Diving? What games do you play by the beach? Did you just laze and soak up all that the sun has to offer? Are you a beach person? Or so you prefer the mountain lodges and ski trips?

fly for vacations - plain
I like active holidays. am lazy to stay lazy on beach:) usually we play volleyball, or different other games with kids. never did snorkeling...I think i would afraid for it:) mostly we spend our holidays near the lake in my parents town or go to the coast of baltic sea for few days. My daughter is 9 so I don't risk htake her to long trips, coz even few hours of travel by car to her grandparents seem for her as ages:)

Hi scorpiostar, did you say coast of the baltic sea? Oh my goodness!! That was my first reaction when i read your reply. But you do stay in that part of the world as well. Lithuania is not far from Baltic sea but if you say that in my country (Singapore), people will go aaaawwwwwwww and then stay quiet. Simply because they don't know the geographical location or they've never heard of it. Sounds very cool. Thank you for your reply! - Lyn

Wow just the coast is beautiful! I love the trees lining the beach. It is a beautiful place. Lucky for you, you live there. If i'm not wrong, the baltic sea is the only fresh water lake? Or is that another place?

Baltic sea - path to the coast...
hi camar_lyn. Lithuania is located on the coast of baltic sea. yes for people of your country maybe it sounds as miracle, coz they can't imagine where Lithuania is. I live in capital of Lithuania - Vilnius. And coast of Baltic sea is in other city - Klaipeda. So there is 300 km distance to get seafrom capital. We have nice beaches there and thousands of people from Lithuania and abroad are enjoying our waves and sand:)and after big storm u can find "Lithuanian gold" - pieces of amber... Look at this pic - it is coast of our baltic sea:

I would definitely prefer a relaxing and laid back holiday. The main purpose of having a holiday for me is to destress. I am not sure if my kids would enjoy it but given a choice , I would choose to go to a mountain lodge as compared to the beach. I have had enough of sun in my country:)

Well, it has always been my dream to go to Switzerland and stay there for a few days. I love the scenary there. I was there more than 10 years ago before my kids were born (they are 8 and 2 years old).

Mountains on track - Witnessing the majestic mountain scene on rails.
Hi wdiong! I'm from Singapore too. I know exactly what you mean about having enough sun!*LOL* More like terribly humid. How old are your kids anyway? My boys (3 and 6) simply love to swim. Where's your choice spot for that elusive relaxing and laid back holiday? - Lyn

It sounds like you have lots of choices available to you. Your kids will grow up to be very active people. I cannot help with any suggestions, but I wanted to respond to say good morning, and enjoy your holidays. Your kids learn so much, just from being with you.

Hi GardenGerty, you never fail to say something nice. I really do hope that they learn much more from their daily life. Can you imagine if i am the only source of their information? That would be nightmare to me! LOL I'm sure this holiday will be a blast! We'll be going with my aunt's family and there will be a total of 10 people. Eventhough 10 days might be short for a holiday, we plan to make full use of the time away from the daily worries. :) Thank you for your reply, GardenGerty. God bless! - Lyn

I am not a beach person. Maybe if I did not have asthma I would be a beach person. I like to relax in my airconditioned house where I can breathe easy. I also find it easier to breathe in the mountains of Tennessee. There I sit on the porch and look down the mountain side at all the wild life. The snorkelling sound nice but here where I live the water is terrible. Perhaps if I lived in a better place where the water was blue and clear I might try snorkelling. It really does sound like fun.

Hi sizzle, thank you very much for your reply. I really do appreciate it. I've had a holiday in the mountains twice. I do believe that the air is the best And i'm sure it is good for your asthma as well. However, does the coldness in the mountains has any effect on your asthma? - Lyn

My family and I are beach people and really loves going to the beach. So we actually prefer to have active holidays with a little mix of laid back ones. If we have 2 weeks holiday, we spend the 10 days actively and 4 days relaxing. We love to spend all day in the sun or going to other places. We are more on the sight seeing side and not so much on the trekking and scuba diving.

Hi cdparazo, thank you for your reply. Isn't the beach just the most beautiful thing GOD has given us? The turquoise blue water, the living corals, the beautiful and colourful marine fish and the sound of the waves....sigh.... Then again, when compared to Singapore, Philipines has one of the most beautiful natural beaches. You are lucky to be living there. Cheers! - Lyn

During holidays, I just relax at home. I don't usually go out for a vacation especially during holidays. It also depends on what the holiday is.

Hi,camar_lyn! I prefer an active holiday. My last winter holiday was well arranged.I had several parties with my high school classmates and I also attended a training class for translation. This summer holiday,I have made some plans.I will spend 1/4 holidays with my middle school classmates and high school classmates. The other 3/4 holidays I will attend to another training class.I don't want to just stay at home and play with my computer.
