I used to be a smoker till 3 months back. But I am happy now that I have been able to quit smoking since then. I do smoke now too, but it is not a daily affair.
Now I smoke very rarely, once or twice in a month whenever I have my drinks.
Has any one of you been able to quit smoking completely?

I have a friend that stopped completely. She gave it up for Lent & believes that if you give up something for Lent, you give it up for good. She's even confessed when she dreams about smoking since she also believes what you dream about can be an occassion of sin.
She now has considerable medical problems from the 8 yrs she did smoke even tho she gave it up when she was 28 & is now 59.

Well ranjeetkolarkar, compliments, I know it is very hard to stop smoking. I never smoked in my life, but I have some friends who tried to stop and not everybody could stop, some of them could quit smoking completely. others couldn't and started again smoking.
It's very important to quit smoking for your health and also for the health of people who live near you.

Congrats on doing so well!
I quit smoking almost three years ago. I read the book by Allen Carr. I went from more than a pack a day to beeing a non smoker overnight. And it was extremely easy. Wondered why I have smoked every day for more than a decade, thinking i would never be able to quit.

Congratulations on giving up smoking. I used to smoke but gave up completely about 10 years ago. I know it can be hard and it took me quite a few tries over a few years before I managed it. I hope you keep it up and maybe manage to cut them out completely. Keep up the good work and your health will benefit greatly from giving up.

my boyfriend had been a smoker for 17 years. but by the time he met me, he decided to quit. i did not force him to do so. he even surprised me last december telling me that he finally put an end to his vice. i was so surprised and very happy about it.
i think one can truly stop smoking when he's determined and willed to do so.
i am glad to know you quit, too! you can do it!

I've tried to quit smoking so many times - but without much success. The longest I went was for around 4 weeks, then I had a smoke thinking it wouldn't matter if I had just the one and before I knew it I was back on a pack a day again.
One day i'll try again! ;)

No, I have been a smoker for a very long time. Once, a long time ago I used the nicobate chewing gum to try to quit, but as I hate chewing gum of all types, this didn't last.
Then about 11 years ago I tried the nicobate patches. This worked for 6 months, but then when my late husbands cancer got very bad, I took up smoking again.
You are done very well to get this far without smoking.

On the 20th August 2004, I stopped cold turkey. I smoked the occasional herbal ciggy till I was heartily sick of them and stopped those as well. I had been smoking 60+ a day and spending about $150 a week. It was wonderful having all that extra money...I sure needed it. I had a few ciggys on New Years Eve last year and then for some reason, I started smoking again about 3 months ago. Only 3-4 a day to start, now I'm up to 30 a day. I'm disgusted with myself and finding it difficult to stop again.

Ya, i have been successful same like you. Even i was a smoker but then now a days, i smoke only when i meet my college friends. I meet them once in two weeks and so i am confident now that i have been able to quit. I have not quitted completely and i dont even think that i will do it because i enjoy smoking when i am with my friends. Not because i am addicted but because its just an entertainment.

Yes, I'm happy to say I have. One of my friends told me that he'd quit by picking a date. It wasn't easy, but it worked.
I think my quit date was March 13 last year (12th being my last smoke), but I'm not 100% sure of it. I am 99% sure though, as I would have wanted it on the 13th to relate to my AA birthday (6/13/2003), and I also wanted to quit before I left Turlock. That was before last Easter.

I know it is really hard to quit smoking, I mean, it is your life. It is really hard to stop something that you are used to in doing. But discipline itself and the will to stop smoking plus the support of you love ones will really help a lot in combating that kind of vice.

This is my 3rd day with out a cig. I replaced it with dipping. Yes yes, I know it's a discusting habbit, but it's either dipping or smoking, and I was starting to have breathing trouble. Replacing the source of nicotine is the way to go. When snus becomes available in my area I will switch to it and no longer have to spit which is the really bad part about dipping. All you people who are still smoking one smoke one for me!
