Do you think the rise of weird celebrity baby names is on the rise? Which name do you think is the weirdest? I think that Apple (daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Matin is weird not unsual but wierd and why would you want to name your child Banjo (the son of Patrick and Rachel Griffths). Tell Me what you think?

What ever happen to sweet simple names like Jane or Mary or Sue. Everyone wants to be such an individual anymore. I wonder if they think about how the child will feel when they grow up.

my guess would be no. They are only thinking about the reaction they will recieve at the time.

My youger brother named his 2 daughters, Tomorrow's Dream, & Rainy River. Very pretty sounding but imagine when someone calls asking, "Is tomorrow there?" NO it'll be here shortly. Hahaha. Apple & Banjo? Sheesh that's beyond wierd. Wht did they do, look at the first thing they saw and say, Yeah let's name the child "apple". HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I don't think those parents understand that giving children names like that will hurt them later.I mean at school they will be teased. It sometimes feel like they want some attention and getting attention via your own child is really sick. I'm really against idiot names like this. You wouldn't call your kid peaches right? Why calling your child apple? I don't understand those people

i like different names but not out of control names. i always think of how the kids will react to a weird name in elementary school and junior high. that is when the real teasing would begin. apple and banjo are a little out there. my kids have names that arent too common but not strange. my daughter is alexa but we call her lexi. there are no other lexi's in her school. my oldest son is jd, havent met one of those either. my next son is ryder. no other ryders around either and my last son is jesse. not an odd name, but not too popular anymore either.

I know exactly what you are saying!! I do not know to many people with those names either. I did the same with my sons name I wanted something differt and uncommon but not something that was to uncommon. I finally docided on the name Rylan and I love it. I do not no of anyone with that name but it is not a weird name. I do belive that they could have come up with some better names if they would have just tried to.

i think the weirdest name that i have come across is geri halliwell's (ex spice girl - ginger spice) baby : Bluebell madonna. arent there any decent names that she could choose from? i pity the kid..having to deal with such a name for the rest of their lives.

My question is why do we call them baby names. Do they get a different name when they become grand fathers? Anyway in our language Sinhalese some parents give funny names to their children. Here are some of them "Vinodamala" means Jolly Mala. "Adjutus" a greek king, but in sinhala it means filth. The other unfortunate thing is when parents don't think of how the initials will read. So they end up being called: M.A.D.Fernando D.O.G.Perera V.A.L.Berty which means Berty the Cad.

I dont know why they call it baby names. I guess it is because you give them their names while they are babies. That is to funny with the names in your language.

I've heard lots of weird baby names. I think it's kind of crazy. I gave my son a name that wasn't too common at the time, but it's a name everyone has heard of. Then like right after my son was born, we noticed several babies named Elliott born at the same hospital! I would never give my child a name lie Apple or Banjo. There are several other names that are really out there, too. That's one positive thing you can say about Brittany Spears, at least she gave her kids normal names! lol

It is not just celebrities that are doing this. A friend of mine worked for the census bureau a few years ago, said one woman had a kid named for each continent. And my old roomie's mom was a teacher, had twin girls named (emphasis on the upper case) goNORrhea and SyPHILis. Now who in their right name would name their kid after STDs. And I guess we should thank Zappa for starting this when he named his kids Moon Unit and Dweezle. Makes Apple seem nice now doesn't it?

Well, I think that Gwyneth Paltrow wasn't really thinking right when she named her daughter Apple. But I do think the reason was sweet. Gwyneth said that when she had her daughter she was so in love that she could only think "She is the apple of my eye" and that it was so sweet sounding that when they asked what she wanted to name her, she said Apple. It was only later that she realized that some, if not most, people would think it was a weird name. I don't think Banjo is so weird, but then I am from Texas and we name our children things like Dallas, Austin and Houston. :) I do think naming your child Kid (Tea Leoni) is not only weird, but lazy too. Then there is that child named Pilot Inspektor (I cannot remember his parents' names, but I saw it on VH1). Why would you do that to your child??

I have no clue what half of them were thinking when they picked the names for those children. And you are right nameing your chilk "Kid" is just pure laziness their part. Thanks for the responce glad to know I am not the only one!!

Yes those are some really wierd names for kids. I agree with you that wierd celebrity baby names are on the rise. I think alot of it is to get the publicity. I mean come on who in thier right mind would name thier baby "Free". That is the name of Barbara Hershey and David Carradine's son. How wierd is that? I can understand giving your baby an uncommon/unusual name so they don't have a common name like other kids. But the name "Free", come on!! Can you imagine what that kid is going to go through when he gets into school?

Most definately, I have to say though that I think Victoria Beckham picks her kids names out of a hat as they are by far the weirdest, but then bob geldoff with his daughter Peaches definately comes a close second lol.
