What is your religious or none religious belief. Do you practice a particular religion or are you more of a spiritual person who does your own thing? I'm wondering how much variety in religious beliefs we have here in mylot and I'm wondering if there are any religions that I have never heard of. I want to hear from everone from the Christians, to the Athiests and the Wiccans and Pagans. And anyone that I haven't mentioned. If you do attend church, Do you believe EVERYTHING that your church teaches?

Well I really dont care for religion...or rather I dont care for the ppl (some NOT all) who tend to follow a religion and how they go about it....I am however a very spiritual person and draw from numerous different paths (old Witchcraft, Buddhism, Vodou and Native American Spirituality) and walk a very personalize spiritual road....one that really is only suited for me but IMO thats how it should be really we should ALL walk in a way fit only for us...kinda like wearing shoes...you never feel FULLY comfortable wearing someone elses shoes, even if you dont want to admit it ya know....

I believe in God and Jesus and am a Protestant. I believe what the Bible says.
I don't go to church.
I have found that organized Religion tends to add it's own flavor and teaches things the are not necessary in the Bible.
Some have membership manuals that are basically rule books that outline expected behavior and dictate what can and cannot be worn, and other conditions of membership.
The Bible already has the guidelines as set out by God, and these churches often demand more.

I am with you on this one too. I believe in God, being brought up a Catholic but dislike organised religion. I prefer to lead a life respecting people and trying my best to be a good person (as I see it). I believe that God doesn't demand that we attend a temple or church - he just wants us to have faith in him and be good/respect all of his creations.

I agree with you totally about organized religion. That's why I am a Christian. I don't consider myself any type of denomination, although I attend an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church. I find that this is the only church that follows the Bible the way it is supposed to be followed. Not with man's rules, but God's. I've tried different churches, and denominations and they've all tried to instill their own beliefs on me. I love my church, because it gives me the freedom to have my own relationship with Christ. If a church is demanding more than what the Bible tells you, then it becomes confusing and God is not the author of confusion.

Hi. I am an Atheist - I don't believe in any organised religion at all. In fact the effect it can have on some people positively terrifies me! As a child growing up in the UK, I went to an ordinary school where we were taught the very basic generalities of the Anglican (Protestant) religion, but it was no more than one lesson a week, and also involved learning about other Faiths and religions. My parents weren't Church goers at all, and they encouraged me to read and research about all different religions so that I could make up my own mind without any indoctrination.

Hello miamilady!
Through the course of years I have developed some strong beliefs. I'll try to be short but comprehensive.
Being born to theist parents, I had a belief in a deity. When I grew up and excelled in my studies, especially sciences, many questions were raised in my mind to which no body seemed to have answer other than that GOD made it or did it, so I became an agnostic.
In sciences I learnt that there is always a cause behind an effect, that life is born out of life (biogenesis), that the universe is an organized system etc. Fortunately or unfortunately science too couldn't answer my basic questions. I figured out that science cannot, by itself, have answers to some questions which are beyond our five senses. So, I set out my reasoning in following years.
When I came to Engineering University/College, I had already developed a belief that nothing in this universe happens without reason and cause, nothing is created without a designer and a maker. That led me to ask myself what's the cause of this universe, our lives, all these animals, plants, everything and how they came to "being". Asking these questions to myself helped me reached a conclusion that there must be a Creator, a maker, a cause to this universe. I now call this as the GOD.
I also believe that if there exists a GOD, then their must be a system of guidance and that there should be HIS representatives who could deliver us the message, guidance and wisdom. Hence my belief in messengers. I also believe that every action must have a consequence that we have to bear either negative or positive. Hence my belief in afterlife. My belief is that humans are/can be much greater and elevated than their material selves, So here comes my belief in spirituality and this is not empty one. I have experienced it working in life.
There are many other things that I believe and have my own reasons to believe in them but I fear the response will get too long. I hope you will ask for explanation where ever you feel a need:-)

I am glad miamilady, that my response made some sense. I have described my journey in detail in another post which also include, how I arrived to monotheism with my simple logic in my teenage. There are much matured philosophical, logical and analytical reasons for my monotheism now but that was an easy to understand reasoning. When ever you get time and feel interested, feel free to give it a read here:
http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1060450.aspx (post# 5).
I hope that our friendship will prosper and we will be sharing much more in future to benefit from each others knowledge, though I believe that I'll be on receiving end more than on giving end.
Thanks for the best response, miamilady!:-)

Heehe--I was baptized Catholic and confirmed Protestant...but thanks to my great-grandmother got introduced to the philosophy of Unity, Science of Mind and Norman Vincent Peale...although now I'm a follower of the wiccan/pagan path--I haven't completely left my Christian ideals, but the pagan path seems more attuned with my personality to begin with....I love the concept of both the feminine and masculine of the divine...a god and goddess which to me makes more sense and for more balance in the scheme of things

I am a practicing Roman Catholic. I was raised in a catholic home and then with college began experimenting with protestant faiths and spent a few years with that. From there I spent several years saying I was spiritual but not religious. After suffering a living hell I found my way back to Catholicism and know for certain this is where I belong and will be the rest of my life. What I admire tremendously about the protestants is their closeness to Jesus. We Catholics need to work on that one! I do very much believe in the Holy Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I also believe the Virgin Mary has a truly important role as the mother of Jesus and that she can and does intercede for us when we place our petitions to God. I believe in the power of the Rosary. I believe abortion is murder and am very much Pro-Life! I believe studying the bible is important and though many want to claim that women should be leaders in the church, be able to become priests, deacons, etch we need to look at the Gospels of Jesus to understand this is not God's plan. We are not taking back seats to men, just fulfilling different equally important roles. Women are the nurturers and men are not. We are all teachers and followers, we are all capable of evangelizing, increasing our faith, our value for the lord and we each have different persons. The stations of Jesus should be a strong example of this as we continue forward on this earth working toward the most high and greatest everlasting life we can achieve.

I don't belong to any religion. I have studied a few though. I am interested in "alternative" religions. I suppose I could say I am spiritual a little bit and I pick things to believe which make sense to me but that means from all over the place. I don't want to follow all of the doctrine from any one religion simply because there is always something I will not believe.
I have my own religion called "Bexleyness". There are some rules like "If it's not fun, don't do it"!And, worship the Godess of the cocoa bean.

I found this article to be a clear definition of religion and spirituality:
Religion is an institution established by man for various reasons. Exert control, instill morality, stroke egos, or whatever it does. Organized, structured religions all but remove god from the equation. You confess your sins to a clergy member, go to elaborate churches to worship, told what to pray and when to pray it. All those factors remove you from god. Spirituality is born in a person and develops in the person. It may be kick started by a religion, or it may be kick started by a revelation. Spirituality extends to all facets of a person’s life. Spirituality is chosen while religion is often times forced. Being spiritual to me is more important and better than being religious.
Religion can be anything that the person practicing it desires. Spirituality, on the other hand, is defined by God. Since religion is man defined, Religion is a manifestation of the flesh. But Spirituality, as defined by God, is a manifestation of His nature.

I think its more of a perspective than a definition. Although I respect what the person is saying, I don't agree entirely. I think religion has it's pros and cons. I am more spirtitual than religious myself but I think some who are religious can benefit from the sense of community they find in their church.
Yes, oftentimes religious folks are hypocritical about their morality, but at least they attempt to each some morality to their children. That' is not a bad thing. The bad thing is when they go overboard, which unfortunatly does happen too. Thank you for your contribution to this discussion.

I was baptized Catholic as a child but I don't follow a certain religion. I believe in God, Heaven, Hell and I believe that when our time here is through we all have to answer for what we do. I don't attend church mostly b/c most of them seem more interested in criticizing your lifestyle and judging you then learning and praising God. I follow my own beliefs and try not to shove them in other ppl's faces.

If you want me to put a label on my self that it would most accuratly have to be Witch/Priestess. Pagan for Umbrella, however not Wiccan. As far as traditions go, I am ecclectic and learn a bit of everything and integrate what makes sense to me and disregard what doesn't.

I don't practise a particular religion, but I wouldn't go as far as to call myself an Atheist. I describe myself as Agnostic, as I don't know what I believe yet. I still have plenty of time to decide, and I don't want to commit to anything unless I am sure. One things for sure, I'd never be a scientologist. x

I'm a Christian Catholic, but not really into religion. I don't remember ever being a religious person. I think because I have been exposed too early on liberal ideologies. I don't believe that what is written in the Bible is an absolute Truth. These days there are so many interpretations that made me realize you can make it say anything you want to if you look at the words long enough. A lot of people will say that a particular thing is true just because its written in the Bible. I think this is giving the Book too much worth.

I beleive in god,but i don't really physicaly attend for any religion practice. My personal opinion is every religion has its own unique way of beleive.I do pay respect to every one for what they beleive. No matter what religion you beleive the most important is to be kind ,good hearted and helpful to the communitiy.
I haveno comment on whether i beleive or not in what had been taught in the church. All i can say is follow the god and do what is right for your self and others.

Agnostic. I do believe there is a God, but other than that some things just don't seem to add up to me. And I'm not looking for someone to start preaching to me, I have been to church, I've read the bible, I've actually read a few looking for answers. Just some things don't add up to me.
