I think that there are a gamut of ways to improve one's vocabulary.
For one, a student could borrow an easily accessible book at their school's library, which is specifically made to help in improving one's English vocabulary.
If there's nothing of that sort of book in the school library, which I somehow doubt, then one could scour through the internet to find a reliable site that offers a wide array of techniques to improve one's English vocabulary.
If a student is still not satisfied with what he has learned through the net or the library, he could buy books that could help in enhancing one's vocabulary.
However, whatever the student learns should be consistently applied in conversations or in his daily dealings in life.
In this regard, I feel that myLot would be a great medium to improve one's vocabulary because one could easily apply what he has learned in different discussions here, which incidentally use the English language.
I am not quite familiar with the Tamil system of teaching English, though, but I feel that regardless of the teaching system, if the student truly wants to improve his English vocabulary, and he has the faith and willpower to improve, then it is very likely that he will improve.
