Personally, I think that they grow pony tails to show that they have hair, even if it's not on the top of their head! I guess it's a macho thing.

They really do? I must admit that I haven't noticed that yet. Next time, though, I'll try to be more keen in observing them so as to see whether they truly use pony tails. However, if I were to make a wild guess, perhaps they think that wearing pony tails could help in preventing their hair from falling or maybe they just find wearing pony tails quite fashionable. Whatever their reasons are, I feel that they wear pony tails essentially for their own benefit.
