Do you keep your cats inside or do you let them rome free outside?
I have three outdoor cats and am starting to regret letting them outside. One of them just brought in a bunny. They allways seem to be bringing in differnet animals. Is there any way to train them not to do this ?

We have two cats that think they rule the roost, lol. One is both an inside and outside cat. The other one is strictly an inside cat. If I had my way I would keep the other one from going outside too. She was in a fight the other night at 1am and scared the crap out of me. There is no way to train them not to hunt but I don't mind if they hunt mice!!

We don't mind them fighting/playing with each other because the older one is just letting the youngest know who's boss. The only reason it scared me so much the other night is we don't really know what type of animal it was and there was so fur laying around the ground in the morning. Both cats seem to be getting along with my puppy right now and the oldest just leaves him alone but the youngest cat starts most of the little play fights that they do have and it's funny to watch but I watch to make sure the puppy doesn't hurt her.

My first cat (got her as a kitten from my 1st grade teacher and we grew up together) was an indoor-outdoor cat for the first part of her life while we lived in a quiet country area in California (my mom would freak whenever she proudly brought a lizard, still alive, into the house to show off); then she became an indoor cat when we moved to a 4th floor apartment in Berlin Germany. She stayed an indoor cat when we returned from overseas.
My second cat was always an indoor cat. He only went outside once... when a guest to our house didn't close the front door all the way. Unfortunately, once was all it took. His body was found a couple of nights later in a neighbor's yard, apparently poisoned (perhaps unintentionally).
My current cat (I "adopted" him when I married the man he owns ;-) is an indoor-outdoor cat. I worry about him, but my hubby raised him as an i-o cat. He rarely leaves our backyard deck and always comes in before we go to bed. He's never bought any critters into the house... so far.

good-eh to you too cloud_kicker_32 (lol that was so corney). My cat Oliver, whos the main cat that brings things inside, makes a weird moewing noise every time he brings something in.Allot of the times whatever he brings in is still alive and not really harmed so I put Oli downstairs until I can catch what he brought and let them go. Sometimes He brings it in and as awful as this sounds he rips up, say a bunny to peices to where hes only left the organs. I think he eats the rest of it.

I most certainly do keep my two cats indoors! Doing this helps to keep them safe and gives me peace of mind. I know that they will not be run over by a car or hurt by other animals or stupid humans. And my cats don't seem to mind. They enjoy playing with their toys and taking long naps on the bed and sunning themselves in the sunporch. It doesn't get any better than that for them or me.

I have always kept my cat indoors. She has become a very pamered little kitty I must admite. When she does happen to snick out the door I think it is kinda funny because she has no clue what to do. Most of the time she gets so scared that she runs right back in the door fist chance she can get.

All 10 of our cats are indoor cats. In first grade I had two cats that were indoor outdoor cats but they got stolen because someone had thought they were abandoned and stray while we were away on a trip. Since then all of our cats have been indoor cats. The most recent 4 were strays when we got them and either feral or nearly feral. My aunt and uncle have indoor cats because the cats chose that.

Amendment to my post last night. My parents' eight cats of the ten are all indoor only. My two cats are leash trained and go with me for walks sometimes so if you count leash training as outdoor then they are indoor outdoor, however they never go outside unless they're on a leash.

The only thing to do is say 'oh, what a good kitty thank you' and then get rid of it when the cat isn't looking. They are following their hunting instinct. As for getting outdoor cats declawed that is not a good idea. Even though they can do ok outside without claws they are more at risk of injury from other animals.
