yes, i agree with you. whenever there are scenes with ned and rod and tod in it, i kinda feel a bit sad because they have killed maude off the show, and now the flanders are missing one family member. :P

From what I recall reading, the voice of Maude was from Colorado, and wanted to live in Colorado, and when her contract came up for renewal, she wanted a provision for her to have a flight back and forth for every recording session and she was declined.
Thinking she had leverage, she didn't sign, and they killed her character off. She has since been re-hired as she was doing and does other voices.

I don't have any idea why they did it. That episode was a laugh. Mostly because of how Maude was killed. It was Homer's fault!

Bart? Bart has something to do with the accident? I can't remember. I know it was Homer who lean that's why Maude got hit by the t-shirt.

I think they killed the character off to generate some publicity for the show, they've done similar things before when they did the who shot Mr Burns episodes and when one of the Simpson's characters turns out to be gay. I also think it is to do with the person the does the voiceovers, if you notice, the voice of Maude Flanders changes especially in the later episodes. The voice I miss is Troy McLure, unforutnately there is nothing they can do to replace him, the poor man was killed in real life.

Maybe the person who did her voice wanted off the show? Instead of replacing her they just killed her character.

I remember hearing that they wanted to try and do a soap drama type of episode.
Except unlike south park she was gone for good. (no return like kenny) It was during the part the script writers wasn't sure which directions to take things and that could also play apart in it.

I wondered that and it was like how did that happen. I guess they wanted to show and see how Ned would do on his own raising 2 kids. I never really thought too much of it to tell you the truth.
I guess it must either be a dispute or the fact that a new direction was needed to see how Ned would do as a single father. I'm just curious in a direction where Ned finally finds a woman and Rod and Tod have a step mother.

yes, i am curious about that too. i wonder if Ned could finally find a woman who would become a step mother of rod and tod. but maybe the creators of the simpsons would just make him live that way forever, being a single dad and all.
but it would be a good twist to the story if ned would start dating someone new again. bet that would bring in a lot of hilarious episodes, with homer ruining his dates, etc. lolz. :) i can just imagine.

yes, and then maybe, the show could also feature lenny and carl doing something outrageous with homer, like spying on flander's dates and stuffs like that. *sigh* the simpsons could really be such a funny show sometimes. lolz. :)

I agree right there. That would make for some great TV and it could help give the show a little jolt of energy added.
