My poor 2 yr old!!!

My 2 yr old, Ryder, was bit by a tick today, for the second time in a year. Last year, we found a tick attached to his face, right under his eye. He was immediately put on preventative antibiotics and thankfully he was fine. Today, as I was changing a poopy diaper, I found a tick embedded into his skin on his butt. I took it out with tweezers, put it in a baggie and ran right over to my county vector control center. they told me there that it was there for over 55 hours!! I change the boy at least 5 times a day and I did not see it until today. She told me that it is probably because it started out so minute that I couldnt have possibly seen it. How scary is that? What if it was in a place that I wouldnt have noticed at all?? Then what??? So now, he is on 30 days of antibiotics because the odds of this tick having Lyme disease is more than 1 in 7 chance. How scary is that? I am so freaked by this. And it doesn't really matter how good you check yourself and your kids, it could be there and you may never see it. I hope and pray that we started his meds early enough so that he doesnt get any disease. Please say a quick prayer for my little boy. My son has been thru a lot in his 2 yrs of life. When he was only 4 weeks old, he had emergency stomach surgery for pyloric stenosis. Then throught the two years, he has been sick a number of times, fallen and hurt himself a few times, and was the one in the car when we had the accident in december that was unconcious for a few minutes. This child scares me. I worry about him so much too because he is the "troubled boy"..lol. I just love my kids to pieces and I cant bear for them to be sick or hurt. I hope that these ticks stay away from us. I pray ever day that I do not find anymore on my kids, or me or my hubby for that matter. It is just a scary thing to have no control over things. I am not a control freak but I like to be able to protect my kids the best I can and I feel that I have failed Ryder by not seeing that tick earlier. 55 hours is a long time!!!

How do you get ticks on you? I’ve never had one and no-one that I know has- I’m just curious how you get them? Is it a certain area you live? From animals? I’ll keep Ryder in my thoughts- I bet the antibiotics will do the trick! And he will be ok! I hope so anyways- I have no idea what a tick even looks like to look on any of us- Poor kiddo- seems like he has been through a lot in his young life already- just proves that he is a strong little guy!

thank you for your thoughts and prayers!! he is taking one months worth of antibiotics so that will prevent him from getting lyme disease if in fact the tick had it. the chance that the tick had lyme is pretty high so the antibiotics is the right way to go. a tick is a very small bug. it was on him over 55 hours and i just could tell it was there. just a few hours earlier, i didnt see it at all. scary!! it sucks your blood and as it feasts on your blood, it gets bigger. this is why i didnt see it a day or two earlier. it was so minute. that is what is scary!! what if i didnt see it and it detached and left? then we wouldnt know until it was too late to prevent (the lyme disease). ryder has been thru so much. he is a tough little guy!!

Those things are terrible. I hope things turn out fine. They have really started him on alot of antibiotics. Hopefully, that will help protect him.

yes..he is on antibiotics for one month. that should ensure that he doesnt contract lyme if the tick did in fact have it.

It is scary to find a thick on your baby's. That it might be infectitous and might have the disease. I will be praying for your son hoping that with the antibiotics he will be all right. Trust in the Lord and he will answer your prayers.

Hi there, yes it is indeed scary since ticks can transmit Lyme's Disease. And i really what you did is a good idea regarding antibiotics treatment. It is much more better to prevent it rather than wait and see what will happen. Best wishes and luck to you and your 2 year old.
