Do you grow your own vegetables? Are you into organic gardening?

I prefer to use organic methods which is one of my ways of going green. I found that my zuchini plant is already putting out zucchinis and I an really happy about it. I also dig holes in my gardens and bury the scrap produce so that the worms can recycle it. I work for an Ace hardware store and I discovered that their price for organic soil is the best price of anyone around. Do you garden and do you prefer to go organic to cut the pesticides and chemicals out of your food chain? Any hints for better success?

We are getting a late start this year but we have planted tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, corn lettuce and onions and my husband is putting out a garden for the first time in 10 years because we never had the space before sure we put ou ttomatoes and cucumbers around the trailer last year but the next door neighbors chickens got every one on the vines. This year we are hoping for better luck. My husband uses mircle gorw to help the plants and flowers out. we are using a plot of land that used to hold chicken pens so my husband said stuff should grow pretty good there. I hope so. I love fresh veggies nothing better t hen a vine ripened plump tomatoes or a fresh pot of green beans and corn yummy! can't wait till our garden is tall, green and lush and we can start plucking..now if we can just keep everyone and ting out of it we will be fine..lol That is a great idea about burying your scraps we don't bury them in the garden because then animals will just dig them up probably we have other spots and the chickens are bad for scratching things up.

Yeah, those chickens can be a real problem but at the same time they keep down the bugs and ticks and things of that nature. I really like to garden and watch everything grow. When I move, it is just a matter of picking up the pots and going. I will put chicken wire around my garden in Ashland since the rabbits and other critters will eat what I plant. I will have none of that!

I admit they are good for eating the bugs, but they destroy my flowers every year so I have almost given up that is why we are also having the late start because we weren't sure if we were going to struggle with fighting the chickens, wild rabbits, etc...But we are supposed to get some fencing to put around it. It is only a 20x20 garden lot we plowed up not much but good enough for the two of us now if we can keep the 4 legged and the two legged tings out of it we'll be fine..lol

When you bury scraps of organic material , you do not add any animal scraps because that is what attracts the animals. Rather you can bury plant material in the garden or if you do use any animal material you will comer it with wire so that the animals cannot dig through it plus you can add lime to make it so that it is to too acid.

Actually, you could container garden. I use pots for many of my plants and it saves on water. I use no pesticides and I use organic fertilizers. Half the fun is growing it yourself.

We do raise a garden. We have always raised a garden. When our kids were still at home, we would plant 300 pound of potatoes and 1 pound each of corn and half runner beans. As well as lots of other veggies. We have fruit trees and such too. We just love the fresh foods and we know that it has not been sprayed with chemicals. we live in the country so it is easy to raise a garden here. Now that the kids are married and moved away, we dont raise quite as much and I dont preserve as much as I used to. I use to can 100 quarts of green beans then we would give the rest away. We also ate them all season. We are fruit veggie loving people.

I have not been able to do alot of gardening where I live due to little space. I will be living in an area, starting the end of June, that will make it possible to have a garden. I am pleased about that. I will have the worm farming in progress by then and all the fertizier I will need. As it is, I have to buy cases from the surrounding farms to put up fruits and veggies.

The taste of organically grown foods are much better. It is also a great way to recycle your natural waste. I have a compost pile. It is a good work out to work it. I find it very relaxing as well.

I only grow some of my own vegetables, my yard is not big. I use only organic fertilizer and no pesticides. I have zucchinis, tomatoes, radishes, lettuce, beans. I grow them because there is a crop fast and I love to see them grow, I check them every day. It is just for the fun of watching them grow but they taste every year delicious.

I agree, half the fun is just growing them yourself. I am going to start worm farming soon and it is great fertilizer. There is a great site that you can bring up by putting "worm farming" in to search at Blingo. Check it out!

I prefer organic produce that I have grown myself! I like Trader Joe's organic line also! It is easy once you learn how and to make your own compost is even easier! Container gardening is good too but you have to make sure that you water the containers enough to keep the food growing!
