My husband used to throw away all old things, but I prefer to preserve them for their intrinsic and vintage value.

Hello ssh. Speaking of old stuff, I think that I am also fond of them as I think that to some of them it is, " the older, the better", like our great and ancient cultures in the four greatest ancient counties in history. I love my city Ganzhou, where I was born. It is an old city built in Song Dynasty as well as Hangzhou City, which was also built in the same dynasty, from 960-1279 AC. Right now we can still see some of the cultural relics in these two ancient cities, though the former is much smaller than the latter. I am so happy that my home is very close to the old walls built in Song Dynasty and later rebuilt in Qing Dynasty and after 1949. It has now become a very good place for people to visit and to rest for leisure. As to an old wife, I think that it is the same to me. The older she is, the more she loves me and vice versa because the deep emotion grows between us as we are aging. We have a Chinese saying, "You get married young and you are a very nice company to each other when you are old". Yes, I love my old wife as always with time passing by. We find it hard to leave each other. I love old things, dear ssh. Thanks for your nice discussion. Have a good day.

Lovely.I just could not help appreciate your thoughts on old things. Except Old habits die hard, all old things are worth keeping for memory and their intrinsic value. Yesterday from home I transport to my office one wooden almirah and that almirah was made in 1935 out of rose wood. In those days my father in law had paid $10 in 1935 and today it costs$1000 or more.

Oh, you are welcome, ssh. That is true indeed. The old things value a lot after so many years and they would cost more to get them.

Most humanbeings are having collective instinct also known as possessive instinct. It is nice to keep some collections and study them in depth to acquire special knowledge. Sometimes these hobbies will lead to profession in that field.

I like collecting some types of old stuffs too. For example old clothes that has an outdated fashion. I used to keep my mother's midi gown that was called 'baju bebek' one upon a time ago. About old wife, hey... wife is not a thing, ok? Lol... why do you ask this in the first place? What do you think about your wife?

Once someone asked Ford (motor manufacturer) what is the secret behind maintenance of beauty of his wife. Ford siad two things look beautiful - his wife and his car - reason being both are sparingly used.!! I have a habit of throwing away all those old and new articles which are of no use to me, no matter whether I get money for it or not, it should not be in front me anymore. My wife is reverse of it. She keeps all old thinks whether it is useful or not.

Not really. I do however like listening to old music.... I'm not into collecting old stuff, i prefer something new rather than old, unless it's very valuable or it's shiny, i wouldn't bother. Haha. ^_^

That is indeed a good idea. Shiny you said. All that glitters is not gold!! is the saying. I prefer to keep unique and old articles, because I have possessive instinct.

I am fallen in love with old things. Old things make me remember old friends and old great time. And they do have a charm that all of these new things do not have.

Thank you Mr. pierrelira for your lovely response. It is always better to fall in love with old things, except in case of women/girl. That should be new one, does not matter if that becomes old at your hand. You are absolutely right in stating that new things cannot match for the charm of old things.

I am not a "thing" type of person.. I don't like clutter so I am not really a collector of things which includes "old things" . Lately people have been giving me angels..which I soon will probably put on ebay. I love angels..but not clutter;)

dont forget...old is gold...old is precious forever...we can not think about the new one until we compare it with the old one....the old thing may or may not be the better one to the new one...but during comparison we can feel the difference...tha's why old is the scale to measure how much have we improved ourselves?

I like collecting old things and much prefer to preserve old items..My mom has large collection of books for almost 25 years which includes medicnal books, craft making books, stories, rangoli books, novels etc.,This made me to preserve some of the items which i used and keeping it as a treasure.. old wife? good sense of humour..i feel when wifes become old their caring towards husband increases a lot so old wife needs lot of attention to preserve more than all the things mentioned above..am i right?

So you are a collector of sorts. That is good. The possessive instinct is good particularly those who would like to possess money. They make more money in the process because they hardly spend.

I do uses and like old things but it depends on its usefulness and presentation. If it still works great or looks great then I grab for it. But if it something that you can no longer use for a long time or it looks dirty and no longer oresentable then I leave it.

It is but natural people discard useless things. But there are some things they are totally useless ,but has vintage value and in future it may fetch a good price. Like I have a rollflex camera of 1940's. It is in topic condition, the film 120 mm is not easily available, we have to put adopter for 35 mm film and can go on take 35 exposures. The vintage value is 5 times more than what I had paid in 1960's.

Some of old things are great, they have a lot more value, some of things have a another value (sentimental value).Old cars are great, but one thing is that they are expensive.

I like the old movies from the 1940s, and I do love antiques, old books, and manners. I like to visit old cities and when we were in Alaska, we went to Skagway where they had the city looking like it did in the early nineteen hundreds. In fact they have to maintain it that way. Also I went to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and it has been maintained that same way it was in the nineteenth century. I really love seeing things that were from long ago as far as architecture is, but as for friends, I prefer them in all stages of life, and I would not want to live in old times. I remember when we had an old wringer washing machine and mom having to first put wood in the stove and waiting until it heated up enough to bake a cake and my husband is not old yet, not like some of the men in my neighborhood. They positively look decrepit, standing in the aisle with a vacant look on their face and some of them are the same age or younger than I am.

Now a days because of greediness of people, the old things disappeared and new order is ruling and as a result the entire landscape of a city or a town or village is entirely changed. I am glad to hear from you that charlottetown has been maintained as it was in 19th century. Probably the people's will to maintain the traditions and customs is far more superior than the greediness of the develoeprs. Thanks for your interesting response.

I don't like old things, and the older I get the less I like them. I don't know why but I feel the need to buy new things and renew all the stuffs that are in my home and my clothes too. Is like if I were becoming younger!

I like old and new things both, but especially old books. I don't know about a wife, but my husband gets better every year. I will keep him. Some of the old manners we can do without, but not all of them. As more and more people recognize the value of individualism, some of the old manners must fall away. They must give way to social change, technology, or even because people move from one place to another and have to change to adapt to their new homes. But some of the manners have to do with civility and we must take the time to keep such traditions if possible.

Yes, we never had an opportunity to discuss about old manners. The school or college days manners will not have any place once a person becomes mature. I fully agree with your views on manners. Thanks.

I do like old things very much. But not all of the people like old things. Each person has his/her hobby. The people who likes old things perhaps is due to different reason I think. For example:metamorphism.Ha…Ha…Have a joke. But what about old wife?I think If you call your wife as old wife. The possible reason is you have grown tired of your wife or you love your wife very much. For example:we say Old man in chinese.Ha…Ha….But I confirm you are really love your wife very much.It is a warmly pronominal. Enjoy your life and have a good mind each day.
