Well everyone you know what Grief I have been getting from the New Doctor about my smoking Well yesterday I had to go as I have once again developed a severe Kidney infection, so more Pain and Tablets which are certainly doping up I mean I am natural dope as it is lol but now I am worse Well anyway as so many People suggested Chantix to me I asked His Reply - Well you will have to join the Stop Smoking association, then we will look at it Why? They want me to stop smoking but I have to go to other Places for that I can not go to meetings where there are a lot of strangers and where you have to talk I get scared and Shy and I have told him this He said I should get over that Well I bl**dy can't I have always sat in the Background and not said anything I am ok if it is with People that I know but not with a lot of Strangers so why can't my Doctor prescribe them for me??? He wants me to stop he keeps going on at me how I am killing myself and then this I don't want to see more Doctors I am sick of it there seems to be a different one for everything lately Still no news on Xrays, My Hip appointment well not till July Oh I do love the Medical world lol Well never mind I guess it is happening everywhere but that is how much help my Doctor is giving me to stop smoking, knowing I can not attend these Groups but still refusing me the Tablets, well I think I will just glue my mouth together with Superglue that will stop me smoking I guess lol

Hi gabs, has your doctor stopped to think that maybe if he stoppd hasseling you about your smoking and gave you the medication you need you may just feel well enough and strong enough to think about giving up smoking.would he expect you to run a marathon with a broken leg sounds like it to me. gosh some doctors have less sense than a 2 yr old,i bet he is a reformed smoker they are usually the worst. It is really hard to giveup smoking i have just started,i have decided to cut back to 4 or 5 a day and eventually hope to give up completely. Hope your feeling better soon

I'm sorry to hear your going through all of this, it does seem rediculous that the doctor would not be willing to provide any and all help possible. I hate to say this as my step-father is a doctor but sometimes I think medical school should include classes on 'empathy' - many I've known seem to have no heart at all.

Grrr. I feel like Gissi. Bite the butts of the doctors and the health system. If a big shot politician or the doctor want to quit smoking, does he/she have to join the quit smoking group?? Do they have to wait till July for their hip appointment?? Bite their butts harder. I'm a bit less stage fright now. Maybe it is because I now older. Can you try and overcome your shyness and give the group a try? You may meet new friends who will become your good friends. Love to you.

I am so sorry hon. I have always wondered why doctors nag all the time to get you to stop smoking but then offer little help to you. Its an addiction and not easy to stop. Some people can do it without help and some can't. I have never heard of a stop smoking association but I have a good idea what they are like. I know how you feel about being with a group of people who you don't know. I don't see where that will really help you. But if they won't help you until you join one of those programs, maybe you can find someone you know who wants to quit too and you can go together. Oh and I want you to know that I have been getting your emails, I am just really bad about answering them. I need to be slapped sometimes.lol.

No chance of that making you stop Angel - you would probably figure out how to smoke through your nose! I know how you are feeling and am very surprised that they do not have either a smoking cessation clinic in the surgery or a practise nurse who could help you! You already know how I feel cos I have told you but don't let them get to you sweets - you are better than that! The flying girl is ok now - just a bit of a bruise - and she has forgiven me for laughing! lol xxx

Hello Gabs, i feel bad about what you are going through. I feel you need to try to make your doctor understand that you also want to quit smoking but it will take time as you value your life more than anyone could for you. So he should give you the medication which you need. If your doctor doesn't listen then try to get to new clinic or change a doctor who is more understanding of what you are going through. good luck. my best wishes are with you. cheer up. :)

Gabs, forget the superglue and just get yourself a new doctor. I don't know how it works in the UK, but surely you can get a different doctor if you're upset with the one you have...at least, I sure hope you can. I'm like you when it comes to speaking in a group, unless it's a group of people I know personally (and then only if I'm seated...can't do it standing). I would be as upset as you are with that doctor. What a surprise when I read that your x-rays had been lost. It sure would help if everyone could do their job as they should and not mess things up. Do they have any idea how much inconvenience that causes us to have to go get them redone because of someone else's mistake...NO! Or, they just don't care.

You can´t imagine how much your story reminds me of my own experiences with doctors. They sometimes seem to choose the most difficult way for the patient, instead of respecting their decisions. What´s the point of sending you to a Stop Smoking association if he knows you´re getting anxious in front of a lot of strangers. His comment that you have to get over that is totally misplaced and certainly won´t help you in any way. Even people who are not suffering from any physical diseases need a lot of time (some never make it) to get over the anxiety of talking about something so personal with complete strangers. If you don´t feel well and are in need of medication you´re mind is just not prepared to get over things like that. Where´s the common sense in everything he´s saying? He just seems to enjoy preaching. Sorry you have to put up with all this. I hope you´ll soon have some news about the X-rays. A big hug and lots of love Dana

That sounds like the medical field. It's like a couple of months ago I was in the hospital. the hospital is totally non-smoking, even patients have to go off property to smoke. (Now that looked really good to see these people with IV's and in hospital gowns standing on the corner). However if you are smoker they state they will offer you aids to make it easier not to smoke. All my doctors knew I smoked. I was there a total of a week and not once was any of those aids offered to me. Nice huh? I know when I'm ready to give them up I will but right now I'm not ready too. There are very few things in my life that I can enjoy, smoking is one of them. Overall I think there are far worse habits to have and considering the other things out there that effect the health its not as bad as some.

Hi dearie, I'm sorry to hear about this latest happenstance to you. The truth is, there is really no easy way out to quit smoking unless you are emotionally and mentally prepared to do so. I know I'm not in the right position to tell you to quit completely. I tried to assimilate what your doctor are saying and doing. Looking at the doctor's perspective, I think he refused to prescribe you the medication so you will be force to quit smoking. But a doctor is always a doctor. They can't afford to be vulnerable and emotional as well. I used to work as a dentist. I can't let myself feel my patient's pain while grilling their teeth or injecting them with anesthesia. In another words, I can't show any emotions at all. Try to take everything easily. I'm concern with all the medications you are taking. Have you considered herbal medicine? Its more natural and safer. There are homeopathy and natural medicines available everywhere. How about drinking some special formulated powder to give you added vitamins and minerals. I'm drinking super green food in raspberry flavor everyday.

I don't know if I can be of any help, and this may be way out of line. I am not a smoker, so I don't know what you are going through. I do know that it is VERY difficult to quit and commend you for taking it seriously!!! Is there a close friend or family member that can go with you for moral support? I wouldn't think they would need to be a smoker or want to quit if they were. I just thought maybe that would help you out with the meetings. Best of luck to you!!!

I think if you superglued your mouth together, you wouldn't be able to eat, and we wouldn't be able to hear your lovely voice on your videos with Gissi. LOL To me, that doctor doesn't sound like a very good one. He should be more willing to help you out and he should definitely be more understanding. The nincompoop! The only thing I can think of for you to do is the one thing you DON'T want to do.....go to a different doctor. Other than that, I'm not much help. I will keep my fingers crossed for you that all these things straighten out soon. Love ya hon.

After an operation when my quack was alarmed at my weight gain and I was crying and distressed and asking him straight out for help, he said "I'm not going to help you unless you help yourself". I was gobsmacked. I had no idea where to start or what to do. My weight had never before been an issue. I was staring menopause and dreadfully upset at the least little thing and this was his response? I got up, looked him in the eye and said "I see. Thanks very much " and I walked out and I never went back. I would see him at the clinic and he would say hello but I would see any of the other doctors except him. I know you can't do this Gabs but just know you are not alone. Imagine, If you stopped smoking you wouldn't need the doctors so much and they wouldn't get your money. Doctors need sick patients. Why would they cure us? I reckon we shouldn't have to pay them till they make us well.

My husband is 63 and has been smoking since he was 13 or 14. About four years ago he found out he has a blockage of the heart and the doctors told him he needed to quit smoking. He has a check up every six months and when he is set up with a new doctor for his check up that is the first thing they look at him and say is about the smoking. He tells them look at my age I am aware that smoking is bad for my health. But lay off on the lectures I will quit when I want to quit. He has tried different things to try and help him quit and nothing seems to work. It is not a simple thing for a person to quit smoking and personally I think your doctor is very cold hearted. Doctors are supposed to take the patient and do what helps them accomplish what needs to be done. Lecturing you is not part of the package. If you are a shy person I don't see how he can think setting you up to go to a organization with lots of people is going to help you. This doctor sounds like a real jerk!

Sounds like you need a new doctor -- I always remind my doctor that I am in charge of my body - not he. If he doesn't agree to that - then he cannot be my doctor. Same with my dentist. It is really liberating when you think about it - as you are in charge and getting that straight from the get go makes the difference. I can't understand why he won't prescribe the medicine and wants you to do a group - when it is clear that you believe you won't benefit from the group.
