Iknew some things about prematurity but when my nephew was born way to early I learned a lot more. My sister had preeclampsia which is a condition characterized by high blood pressure. This condition usually doesn't occure until late in the pregnancy but my sister was a rare case. She was hospitalized at 28 weeks and six days later her kidneys started shutting down and her blood bressure was sky hi. The baby was not tolerating the stress and his heart rate dropped. With both mom and baby in extreme distress the only thing they could do was an emergency c-section. This is the only cure for preeclampsia. Both baby and mom were pretty sick for a while after the birth. He is now a happy healthy 8 year old now after outgrowing the problems of prematurity and is soon to be a big brother. He can't wait for the baby to come and asked his mom if the baby will be little like he was. She said "we hope it will be lots bigger". LOL

Yes they need lots of care. My nephew had eating issues and was very small for the first few years. He is 8 years old now and still very skinny but has gotten taller and eats more than I could even tink of eating. Luckily he has not had any lasting learning problems.
