Growing up, my mom would use my full first name and middle name when she was angry at me. And, the way she said it wasn't nice. Needless to say I began to hate both my first and middle names because they sounded so ugly. Now I just go by my nickname and find it weird when someone says my name...almost as if i'm about to get into trouble or they're talking to some stranger that is not me.

Wow, that is exactly what happened to me, too! How amazing to hear that someone else had the same experience. I am OK with my nickname, but anyone who tries to call me by my "real" is going to be ignored, except for one aunt who is almost 100 years old and too hard of hearing for anyone to bother trying to explain it to.

I don't mind my middle name at all, but I hate my first name. At one point in my life, I tried my best to get people to call me by my middle name, it didn't work.
I gave all my girls two middle names, although I can sometimes get tongue tied trying to yell at them lol. My oldest actually likes her middle name better than her first name.

A friend of mine was reunited with his son from a previous relationship. His son was 14 at the time. His name is KC. No middle name, no first name, just letters.
My girls have my middle name and my sons have their father's middle name.

I dont like my middle name at all. I would love to not have one. My mom doesn't have a middle name and she thinks it's weird. Mine is Lynn, there isn't anything wrong with it, it's just not my cup of tea.

That isn't a bad middle name but maybe I am bias, add an "e" to the end and you have mine.

I like my middle name, and I'm named after my great aunt, Her name was Louise, and who was also my godmother. But my middle name is Lou. So My name is Bonny Lou. Back in the day when I was a kid it wasn't to much fun to have my name. Because back then when your parents wanted you to come home from playing, they would open the door step outside, and call your name really loud. which also brings back thoughts of other kids, we never knocked on doors. We just stood outside a friends house and called their name to come out and play. My how times have changed.

Yes I like my middle name very much because I chose it! I was born with an embarrassing middle name, and I never ever used it I always 'forgot' it when I was in my twenties I went to my solicitor and got it changed officially, my parents accepted it and now I use it all the time.

I never did like my middle name. I never would tell anyone what it was. When I got married, I got rid of it and just used my last name for my middle name instead. I really don't see a purpose to have a middle name either, but it has been a tradition and used for many generations is why I think alot of people still do it. I use my first name, maiden name for my middle name and use my husbands last name as my last name. I like it alot better. I did keep my middle initial though, I almost forgot about that.

I don't like it but I don't hate it either... Can a person have no middle name? Is that legal?

I was always very indifferent about my middle name. It is an okay name but I never thought it sounded good following my first name..... like it didn't roll off the tongue easily. I dropped my middle name when I took my husbands last name and kept my maiden name as a middle name.

I see his point. At one point she will wonder why she never got one though. Not everyone hates their middle name. I was embarassed of mine growing up because it was not common and was different than everyone elses. I hated to have to explain how my parents put my mothers two best friends names together to make one. People always like it after I explain the story. But now that I am older I like being different and having a one of a kind name. And I know the story and the reasoning behind it. Its nice to know why instead of the usual response form parents'I just liked the name' or 'it is a family name'.
