Did Stan Lee base any of the comic book heroes (character-wise) on ppl he knew?

To me Peter Parker seems, nature-wise, pretty much the same as any of us- going thru the same turmoils & joys that we may face in our lives...So has Stan Lee used characters of ppl he knew in real life to form these well-renowned characters?
