Nero, my 4 year old labrador likes to chew. 3 tIMES NOW HE HAS CHEWED MY TELEPHONE WIRING. Now, I have warned my husband before about leaving his stuff about but today Nero, I think, cured him. Just as bob always does, he kicked his work shoes off and settled down after work with a vodka. Nero decided to attack his shoes. Well he took them in bits lol
Anyone knows how to stop this happening?

Well, Bob, that will teach you. Why do Men never Listen lol
I am surprised that he is still chewing lol. I guess he has Chew bones and that
Get him one of those big Meaty Bones that you can get in the Pet shop or there is also a Toy you can buy, it is like a Ball and inside it is a treat see if that might work
I hope so or Bob will have no shoes left lololol

It is a trial and error. My Bailey has an issue with chewing everything too.
So, we had to buy different chew bones, raw hides, and toys to find out what he liked. And once you find what he likes, start leaving one is each room.
Bad thing is, you will have a chew bone or hide all over the house. ha ha But it is a sure way to get your dog from chewing on other things.
I know real quick when Bailey needs more bones and hides...because he will start to go after other things. He has already eaten all the crayons, ruined a pair of shoes, chewed on the pool table, alter table leg, and has started on markers, highlighters, and coloring pencils. It is a good thing that I buy the non-toxic stuff!!!

From experience with our dogs over the years, once the dog gets to a certain age, it seems to become set in its habits and they can be near impossible to stop. As a pup though, I have found the training easier.
I think the easiest dog to train was a border collie. I housetrained in one night. She made a mess in the kitchen and I shouted "bad girl" picked up the offending mess took her and it outside and then said "good girl".. She wagged her tail and always barked to go out at night. A similar thing happened with lead training. Within 20 minutes she was walking to heal. No wonder they use this breed for rounding sheep - they pick things up very quickly.
On the other hand, a friend of mine had two dalmations from pups and couldn't train them to do a thing and everynight has to lay down newspapers in the kitchen and put everthing else out of sight or it'll get chewed up or eaten.
You could try buying a chew, but once he's tasted slippers... I don't know.. :-)

I do suppose you have chewy toys for Nero--but that hasn't worked I bet...pets seem to love the "free" toys, and no I have no idea what to do...I used to have one cat, Baloo, that loved to chew wires too...but not just the phone wire.I mean wire wires...as in electrical...amazing how that never electricuted himself--but I would..I'd pick up the wire sometimes not realizing or seeing it had been chewed on, and because of the moisture on my hands would give myself a nasty shock--in more ways than one--don't ask how many times I had to change the wires!

Pull him off in his neck skin every time he chews on something, and don't be afraid to break him or anything the neck skin they have is quite big, but it's like a programmed in realizing that they shouldn't do it again as their mothers do it to them as well when they're pups.
Simply pull him off a bit like that or send him to his spot or so and he should start to learn not to do it again. Don't lose your calm though and shout at him or hit him or anything since that'll teach him nothing.

I own a pitbull/labrador mix dog and he loves to chew!I think some dogs just have a natural instinct to chew anything in site. Luckily, our dogs never goes for the major stuff (like wiring) but he does go for shoes and socks whenever given the opportunity!I've found that giving him more bones and chewtoys has slowed down this issue..

I see that this discussion is 2 months old but I wanted to tell you about my chewer. Out of all five of my dogs, the worst chewer is my yellow lab. He has a way of finding things even if we put them up. I had hoped he would grow out of it but that hasn't happened yet. Here is a picture of him...

I had had a great dane who had destroyed two of my leather sandals. Both are my favourites. I gave him no mercy but took the left over sandle and slap on to his mouth while he was chewing it. It taught him a good lesson and from then on he never did it again.

No, but if you find an easy solution that works, let me know, coz I have the same problem with 2 of my dogs. Minnie, my mini pin, and my cocker soaniel, Gizmo. They chew up everything in sight, and they have so many toys, and chew bones, it's pitiful. Minnie loves chewing on wood, and she's chewed the headboard on my antique bed, my bathroom door, my bedroom door, a wooden storage box that I have, and numerous other things. Of course, she also likes chewing plastic and stuff too, so nothing is safe with her. I find stuff she chews up, almost on a daily basis. It's pretty aggravating.

Oh how I feel your pain!!! My 10 month old Lab loves to chew on the drywall!!! One of these days I'm going to come home and see that she has let herself out of the house!!! LOL. I too have tried everything to stop her from chewing and am at a loss. I'm going to try what one person suggested here about the loose skin on her neck.... wish me luck!!!
