Have you ever thought about it this way?

This is mostly directed to women but it can apply to men too.
I am currently reading this book, "Captivating" by John and Stasi Eldredge. One part of this book makes a very good point.
Have you ever desired something so bad that your heart ached because you haven't received it yet? Specifically to single women, do you desire to have a husband?
Imagine this: the way we desire to have an everlasting, intimate relationship with a man is the way God desires to have an intimate relationship with us? Since we are made in God's image, some of our emotions come from him. He feels the same emotions for us. We are desired by God. Every day he tries to get our attention. Every minute he is giving us his attention and his love. But we are focusing so much on other things, we tend to forget and ignore God.
This definitely changes my perspective on having a relationship with God. He loves me so much and he longs for my love. It hurts to realize that every time I dwell on getting something I want instead of focusing on God, I'm breaking his heart. God is and should always be our first love. After realizing this, imagine how much closer you can be with him?

Sadly I know this but it doesn't stop me from wanting things. I know that feeling of heart ache from wanting. I feel it when ever I want another baby -especially knowing that i can't have another. I have that feeling when I want a home to own and not rent.
I know I could be closer to God and I do try. Thankfully I know that he knows the desires of my heart and that one desire is to be close to him.

I see more the love of God not so much as from husband to wife (or vice versa) but as parent to child. God wants us to cry to him when we're down, He wants us to fear him, He wants us to trust and respect and honor Him. In same way that a parent might feel sad or worried if their child went out of town and didn't call home once, He would be disappointed if we left and didn't think of Him once.
But after all, Christ did refer to His church as His bride various times, so maybe you're on to something. ;)
