How do you feel about parents that take their kids to Las Vegas, NV?

I was reading an online forum the other day about how mad a mother was because she went to Las Vegas to get away from her kids for a vacation with her and some friends and she said she saw alot of parents there with their children and she was outraged by it. She stated that children have no business in Las Vegas and parents have no business taking them there. So what do you think? Should the whole town become a 21 years of age or older, city? Seems a little drastic to me. I wouldn't take my son there at this age - frankly, it wouldn't be much fun for him. But I think when he does get a little older, there are stuff for them to do there. I wouldn't take them out to the casinos and take them out all hours of the night or anything like that. But I don't see a problem with some of the attractions being kid orientated.

personally i think that was a little judgemental of the person who was mad about kids being taken to las vegas, sure, she had someone to dump her kids on when she went away, but that doesn't mean that other people have that luxury! no, las vegas isn't what you could class as the type of place that you would want to take kids to, but then again why not? surely there are things there that families can do together, it can't all be adult orientated, plus what is wrong with educating children about the things in the world you wouldn't normally teach them about?

yeah I think it was very judgemental. I honestly think it is selfish to say that all adults can go but kids can't go there. And really, since she has kids and a family, why should she be leaving her kids in the care of someone else while she go to another city and party it up? I know that there are many things out there for kids to do. circus-circus for example.

I don't see a problem with taking kids to Las Vegas. There is plenty there to do that is family friendly. From the amusement parks they have to magic shows and other type shows. Sure not all is family friendly, but in general Vegas to me is one of the most family friendly cities there is. Sure Vegas is mainly a gambling type city, but a lot of people need to look passed the casinos and actually open their eyes to the other possibilities that Vegas offers. Just like anywhere people go there will be things that are suitable for children, and there will be things that aren't suitable for children. One just has to plan ahead on what they are wanting to do, before going on any sort of vacation and like the poster said before me, some parents aren't lucky enough to find babysitters before going on a vacation, and that shouldn't stop them from going to one of the greatest cities around.

See, I think that is most people's problem - they don't think outside of the box. The only thing they are thinking when someone mentions las vegas is gambling and drinking. But there is sooo much more to that city.

Well put! I don't think anyone has the right to judge me or any other parent on where I take my kids!

Well in a way I can understand the line of some people's thinking, since Vegas was built upon a gambling foundation and mainly the "mob" scene, but that's all in the past, even though the casinos are still around they really are trying to make the city of Las Vegas more family friendly, so everyone in the family can have an enjoyable time no matter the age. Though some people will never really look past the gambling and will always think of Vegas as more of an adult get-away. Which I can also understand that as well, cause sometimes parent's do need a break of their own, but they shouldn't condemn or get made at other parents for taking their kids to a place like Vegas, cause well the world don't revolve around these people and if they think it does, than well some serious waking up needs to be done.

Las Vegas is a Fun interesting city. I have only been there once myself, but I did see people there with kids doing some site seeing, and never really thought anything of it. They do have a lot of Ride areas and shows, etc. that I think you can take your whole family too, and such even if they are in the Casino areas. And the Food personally in Las Vegas is to die for. Personally, you can go to Las Vegas and have a lot of Fun without gambling if you want too. I just would Love to go again sometime to mainly see the sites. It was quite an interesting time there indeed.

Um, Las Vegas isn't just an "adult" tourist trap. It's actually a city, too. Where do people think the employees live? In the hotels? People like that just royally p*ss me off. I happen to have been born and raised in Las Vegas. My mother has been an exec in a gaming cash access company for the past like 25 years and she would always take me to the openings of new casinos. Of course, when I was younger there was more variety than there is now, but still. Las Vegas is more than just the strip. For the past few years it had the highest rate of population growth in the country, due mostly to the wide open job market. There are currently like three or four suburbs of the Las Vegas metropolis area, however since it's all within the confines of a valley, it's really only identifiable by address only. If you were to just drive, you could go on for probably 3 hours and not see everything. There's simply no way any given person can determine which "kids" are tourists and which aren't. I mean heck, there's a two-story arcade right in the middle of the Strip that doesn't close til like 1am. You think that's not a popular local hangout? Sorry for the rant, that just really bugs me.

well, I think it depends on where you take them, I ahve heard that it was gearing a lot more things towards families. Maybe bars, clubs and casinos wouldnt be the best place for your kids to be, but I hear there are a lot of family activities you can do during the day

Apperently people fail to realize that even though Vegas is a tourist town people actually live there too. God forbid those people have kids apperently. There are actually plenty of things children can enjoy in Vegas as well as adults and not everyone goes to gamble their life savings away. The woman apperently was a twit. People are intitled to travel anywhere they want and just because she has issues with it doesn't make it wrong, it just makes her petty.

My best friend used to go to Vegas all the time when she was a child with her father and the rest of his family. They have lots of shows and places for children, like circus circus. When I was in Reno, some of our family brought their children and they loved their Circus Circus, I think our cars were loaded with toys we all won for them. I didn't have any children at the time, and I still had fun, there's a billion adult things to do there, you just have to walk by the few kids things.

Didn't she realize that people with children live in Vegas too? Seems pretty self-centered to think you can go anywhere (short of bars I guess) and expect not to see children.
