I have sold my house and am off on a new adventure. I bought a 41' live aboard sailboat with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a watermaker, solar panels, wind generator, and 7.5 KW generator, ice maker and GPS with auto pilot. I am looking for anyone who has done anything similar or wants to. I started in florida and have sailed the mexican caribbean clear to belize and back to florida. I am about to embark up on a trip up the ICW Intra coastal waterway to Annapolis Maryland for the summer and then to the caribbean for christmas. Please share your insights, fears, desires, and pictures that would help me in this endevor.

I am located in Portland OR and considering the same. I am looking at a Beneteau Oceanis321 to live aboard. I am having a problem right now with just making the jump and doing it because it is a rather scary thing to try. How are you enjoying it? I would love to pick your brain so please respond when you have a minute in between cruises. You can email me at hendrickson8895@comcast.net

First off, welcome to mylot! :) I am amazed with your discussion that I thought I really have to drop by a response. I haven't done anything like this and I don't think I will be able to in the future. It takes a lot of courage and confidence to sail and live aboard a sailboat. I say it's some adventure you got there and I think it's great! Do share details of your trips because I know other members here would love to. Wish I could do that, just sail off and have the much needed R and R. Take care and enjoy! :)

My husband and I thought about doing that before his health got really bad. There is a magazine called "Living Aboard" that is for people who want to or actually do live on their boats. We had friends who did that last year, sold their house, bought a boat and took off. Unfortunately, we haven't heard from them since. I'm guessing they don't have much opportunity to hook up their computer to the internet. Anyway, get a subscription to that magazine. It is great!
