I have heard potty training starting at like 6 months! which i believe is too early really, but it can be whenever the child is ready to start. Does he show interest in the potty? Does he watch you go? Does he dislike being in a wet or soiled diaper? These are a few things which can help you decide if he is ready.
I started my oldest at 13 months she was almost completely potty trained, stayed dry for most of the day and went on the potty on her own, but then at 20 months she stopped and regressed. Since then she hasnt been to fond of using the potty, she is now almost 3 years and I am still working with her on this.
I have a 14 month old too who is nowhere near ready to learn to use the potty. It all depends on the individual child really. I have known people who had their kid potty trained at 15 months and another whose child was over 4 years! so it varies completely.

By the time my little girl turned one year old, I was more than ready for her to potty train. Of course, she wasn't ready. But, I was plain tired of paying upwards of $100 month for disposably diapers.
All kids are different when it comes to potty training.
My little kid never liked the little kid potty and always insisted on using the big toilet. But, she didn't really start trying that, until she turned two years old.
I would just take her in the bathroom and sit her on the comode every hour or so.
Being a stay at home mom made this job easier, cause I was always there.
It took her about six months to fully master the art of "no diapers" during the day.
We are still working on the night time potty training.
Some moms have claimed success with the rewards and sticker chart.
Best of luck with your baby.

This really depends on the child. Children learn at their own pace when it comes to potty training. My oldest and youngest were potty trained at the age of two and my middle child was potty trained at the age of 3. I have heard of children being as young as one and as old as five. Of course, I personally think two or three is an appropriate age.

My son is 2 and has little interest in potty training. I would wait until your child is interested and wants to uuse the potty. I jump up and down and get all excited when he sits on his potty chair, but he still doesn't care too much. So I don't push it, I think that will make him less likely to potty train at all. So just pay attention to your kids and see when there is an interest. I say 1 is way too young!! My daughter was potty trained right after she turned 2 but my son doesn't care =)

i practiced EC (elimination communication) for a while until we started a nanny job at a house where they had all carpeting, my son was doing wonderfully but has now regressed back to where he doesn't pay attention to his potty habbits. so we are having to start again which isn't a major problem, he's only 16 months old.

Your child is still very young. I would start introducing him to the potty when he is almost 2 yrs old. Don't pressure him. Let him sit on the potty when you are going. Let him sit before and after sleeping. It will come in time. I have 4 children and one was trained at 18 months~first child. The second didn't go completely on the potty until he was 3. The other 2 were trained right around 2 yrs.
