The New Birth Control Pill: Does This Scare You A Little Bit?

A couple of nights ago I saw this thing on the news about a new birth control pill that can prevent a woman from EVER having a period. Does this seem more than a little strange and scary to anyone but me? I mean, what is this doing to a woman's body? I'm 46 years old and very close to menopause, so I would never consider it but are there any trials that show what this could do to a younger woman in the long run? Maybe this is one more sign of the end times, like the disappearing honeybees.

No, cblackink, it scares me A LOT! What right-thinking woman would want to prevent her body from doing what it is supposed to do naturally? This goes back to what I said in another discussion: Just because technology has enabled us to do certain things, does it make it morally right? Cramps are no reason to stop a woman's monthly cycle. Women have endured this for centuries, why should today's women be any different? My mom used to argue against using tampons; she said that they inhibited the body's natural functions. Then toxic shock syndrome came along during the 80s and proved there was an issue. Sometimes the old way is just the best way.

You know, I had the same thought when I saw this: "What right-thinking woman would want to prevent her body from doing what it is supposed to do naturally"? But there are probably plenty of younger women who will go for this. I hope not. There are too many things already that can wrong with a woman's body to invite even more. And to refer to one of the other posts, just because we have the technology to do something, should we do it? There's always somebody who wants to make a buck at the risk of someone else's potential suffering. I think we need to think for ourselves.

that does not seem healthy to me at all, although it would be nice to never have a period, I would never want to be put on that birth control. I have heard of methods of BC that slowed periods down, made you miss a few, bleed a lot less, etc. but one that stopped them completely doesn't seem right. Its natural for a woman to go through this, its a body's way of cleansing itself. I would think long-term effects could possibly be infertility, cancer (cervical or ovarian), possible hysterectomy. I just dont think it would be safe!

I agree. It's not just inferility that could be the concern. To me, a woman's overall health could be at stake.

it is so unhealthy. when are these companies going to stop playing God? the side effects years down the road are going to prove that it is unsafe and it will be recalled, you watch.
dont mess with mother nature. let things run their natural course. this is why the earth is suffering. too much unnatural going on.

So antibiotics should be left alone too? Technology isn't always bad.

well mrniceguy....the topic was birth control, not antibiotics. that is a whole different story. birth control is not a necessity, it is more of a luxury, if you will. antibiotics save lives. that is totally different!!!

This would be really scary for women especially younger woman who would still wanted to conceive later on...Younger women especially those who are not yet married or haven't yet been pregnant should not take any contraceptive pills. Because long time use of this would later cause infertility...
