I had made a discussion what if abortion is legalized. Now i had arrived into thinking of what are the reasons why women are gone into abortion. The topic about abortion is on tight debate because people see it in different views. Some says abortion is a murder, some says it is not. Now, i would like to gather information on What are the possible reasons or what motivates women to get into abortion. I would like to hear different cases, what makes women go through that.

When I was 11 years old, I was raped. Afterwards, I was terrified that I would be pregnant. Had I been pregnant at that time, I would most definitely have had an abortion. Luckily for me it turned out that I wasn't, but I still think about it sometimes, how that could have been part of my life. I know a lot of girls and women who have had abortions because of rape. That's always the first thing I think about when I think of abortion.

Sad to hear that. But i admire you for being strong and glad you're here, for i know being a victim is not that easy and seems traumatic. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I'm glad you try to get over this event as good as possible. My brother was also victim of a rapist, luckily that man got himself a life behind bars now, so the rest of the world has one person less to care about. Keep your head up, lecanis!

Thanks for your kind words, both of you. =) I hope your brother is doing well, Snoberizer. It can be a very hard thing to deal with. It's been 15 years since then for me, and I still have nightmares, though therapy has helped some.

i know some of the common reasons for abortion in India, the most common is the perference for the baby boy . i too had to go for abortion, since my baby was suffering from neural tube defect, my doctor suggested to go for abortion, i tell you it was a nightmare for me and my family. the only thing that occurred to my mind "how really people could go for abortion"

one thing I think we can all agree on is that abortion is emotional and traumatic no matter what your reasons for doing it. I doubt very many women are that blase' about it that they can make the appointment and go do it without putting much thought into it.

"Others are simply irresponsible, and act as if abortion is their primary means of birth control. I've overheard women talking about 2, 3 even 4 procedures. THAT'S an obscenity!" I think to say that multiple terminations is proof a person is irresponsible is just unfair. An average, healthy woman has the potential to conceive 13 times a year for 30-40 years or if my math is right between 390 and 520 times. Now math is not my specialty but if we consider the birth control methods with the highest effectiveness (pill, shot, and depo) are about 98% effective. If we couple it with the potential to conceive, it would seem several unplanned pregnancies in a lifetime aren't that far fetched even when a couple is being careful.

Actually, PREGNANCY was emotional and traumatic for me, the abortion was pure relief.(Well, it was very painful relief!) I have known since I was 11 years old that I didn't want kids. When I discovered I was pregnant, despite birth control, I did not hesitate for a nanosecond to make the appointment. I have never felt a moment's regret. I do occasionally remember that I had the procedure 24 years ago, always with a sense of relief for saving myself and that poor person-to-be a traumatic upbringing. Others are simply irresponsible, and act as if abortion is their primary means of birth control. I've overheard women talking about 2, 3 even 4 procedures. THAT'S an obscenity!

Here are some reasons that I know of that would make a woman decide to have an abortion: they got pregnant from being raped, they are too young, they don't have the financial ability/stability to take care of a baby/child, to avoid birth defects(that would be found after they've had an ultrasound, mental disorders that the woman may have, physical disabilities or limits that she may have, and I'm sure there are more but those are main reasons that I can think of.

There are some cases they commited abortion because it is what they say unwanted child. Sometimes it is because of the girl is raped and if the girl is pregnant if he cheated her husband or just the couple not yet ready to have a baby.

the reason of abortion is when they think they are not yet ready for the responsibility, canot afford to give better life for their children.Abortion is not good especially for the catholic church because its murder, but when you see the reality, its better to make abortion than to sell them in other people.I saw in tv that some selling their babies, putting them in front of the church or somewhere else because they cannot feed them.

You are right it's a tight debate. I believe no body has the right to tell a woman what she can and can't do with her own body, it's her choice. I do believe abortion is murder though. You are ending a life. The baby has a heart beat after 2 weeks of conception and it has a brain and a spine. If you abort it then you are ending it's life, and that is called murder. The real debate is whether or not it's right or wrong, not if it's murder or not.

I think if you were to ask 100 women who had terminated, you'd likely get 100 different answers. Some are unable to afford a child at this time, some are without support from their partner or families, some are still in school, etc. It comes down to at this time a pregnancy is not what they want in their lives. The commitment to sustaining a healthy pregnancy is huge & life changing, if a woman for any reason feels this isn't the time for her to do so, that's her right.

There are a few reasons why... for one, someone already said, rape, I would never expect a young woman who was raped to keep the baby... also if a person has been careful (used all proper contraceptives) and still gets pregnant and absolutely does NOT want a child ever... then yes... also if the doctors feel it is a risk to baby and or mama then there is no reason to bring a child into this world who will die anyways Who should never have an abortion... Women who use it as a birth control... they make me absolutly sick

Here in the USA unfortunately abortion is legalized. Roe vs. Wade made that our ugly reality. Abortion is murder. How can it not be? At what point past conception does a fetus suddently become a life worth living? I say fromt he time of conception - when the life is formed. I have known a few women who have had abortions. In one case I know it was an incredibly difficult one that still haunts those parents and always will. The child she was carrying was deformed. It had the XXY Chromosome. She and her husband had spent years waiting to get pregnant with the first, a healthy boy. This would have been their second and still several years after the first. I don't know that they will ever get over it even though they felt it was best for the child to not birth it. Another woman I know aborted twins and only as a means of birth control. Her lifestyle allowed her to sleep around with a different man every night and her failure to even use birth control methods and forget protection from sexually transmitted diseases is why she did get pregnant and easily elected to abort. We have created these cruel, mailicious persons who think only of themselves and what their immediate needs, pleasures and wants are. They don't care about the future and the have no heart in the actions they choose for themselves and their lives. A third person I know was 14 years old and forced to have an abortion by her mother. She also had been carrying twins and this still bothers her deeply. Her mother forced the abortion because she did not believe her daughter would allow the children to be adopted and her mother did not want to raise them and expected to be burdened with her daughter's mistake. It was easier to pretend it never happened. The daughter told me this and told her mother she had. Yes, mom was ashamed and still held her ground on why she had forced it. If you can not guess from my post or my profile I will tell you I am catholic and with that said very much pro life. I do believe abortion is murder. It should not be a method of birth control - not ever. I have always said when medically it was for the best it should be done but not ever as the common practice it is here in this country. Just how often is murder medically necessary though?

The case you mentioned of the 14 yo girl is NOT what pro-choice supporters believe either. The woman in question, regardless of her age has the right to decide what happens to her body. "I dont' understand your point on this. When does life begin?" In my opinion, life begins when there is a reasonable chance of viability, and when there is functioning brain activity. A pregnancy in it's early stages is no more a child/baby/person than a seed (even if sprouted) is a tree or an egg (even if fertilized) is a chicken.

As you said the child she was carrying was deformed. It had the xxy chromosome. Does it mean, you still have to continue the pregnancy? What if in ultra sound you had found out the child inside the womb, has no feet and the hand were deformed. Will you still go on with the pregnancy? Aren't you were burdening your life and also the life of the child? What kind of life does this child may have once he/she will born?

You are entitled to your opinion as I am mine. We are obvisoulsy at different ends on this issue. I respect your point of view but I will not agree with it. You are entitled to choose abortion for birth control if you see fit and are willing to take the risks that come from it, you're the one living with it - not me. I'd rather have that baby. At what does a zygote become life if not at conception? I dont' understand your point on this. When does life begin?

Reasons for abortion: financial instability no job going to school/college cutting in on fun/lifestyle couple doesn't want children BTW, in the US you can have or drop a newborn baby off at a hospital, no questions asked. Many people don't know this, and maybe it would keep some women from having abortions. And for whom isn't pregnancy emotional and traumatic in one way or another? I know it was for me!!! (I lost my family because of it, and there was a child molestor living around us. The family said it was my fault he went back to jail, but it was his, because he knew he wasn't supposed to be around after the baby came.) Anyway, my little boy makes the pregnancy worth it. I still have emotional scars and post traumatic stress disorder and postpartum depression from the pregnancy, but those things can be lessened/cured over time. I don't see fear of pregnancy or giving birth as valid reasons for abortion. If you're afraid of giving birth, take a hypnobirthing class, or schedule a Caesarian section. Then you can be knocked out and not feel anything.

Most people are awake during a c section. It still doesn't stop the discomfort of pregnancy and potential health problems and then the pain of labor. you had an unplanned baby. Good for you. I had two. But that doesn't mean that every woman should or could. They have the right to make their own choices

Actually, they almost never allow sedation during labour since it can and does have severe ill effects on the baby and knocking out the mother would cause involuntary movements that cna be dangerous and detrimental which should would be able to control if she were coherent. Not to mention the fact that ceasareans are about ten times worse than natural birthing in that it is first of all, an invasive surgical procedure, the recovery time is three times as long and the care and healing of the incision site is just plain awful.

My mother had to deliver me ceasarean becuase I was in distress. The umbilical cord was wrapped around my throat three times and everytime my mother had a contraction, my heart-rate dropped. But before all that, she was in labour for about 26 hours.
