Showing respect

Recently Dave Roever was at a local revival. Dave is phenomenal and he is a retired Vietnam Vet. When he came on stage - I made sure my pre-teen son displayed respect for this man for his service as a military veteran. Dave's approach on stage as a Veteran who provides me my freedom to stand, sit, speak and be free in American warrants my standing as well as my sons. I have watched many with children my sons' ages who no longer seem to afford much in regard to respect - for military, for manners, for social niceties - i.e. removing your hat in a public place, saying please and thank yous, holding doors open for others, etc. Is this a dying cause? If it is - I'm going to be a live fossil for I will not cease to teach my children to demonstrate respect to those who deserve it or demonstrate manners and proper public behaviors. I want to know if there are others out there that feel as passionately about this as I do . . .

I feel that good manners are important! Unfortunately, it seems that many of the Baby Boomer's didn't teach the importance of good manners to their children. As a result, a lot of today's new parents are clueless and won't be teaching them to their children. All a person has to do is just look around. It is obvious that majority of children aren't well mannered. It is really very sad.

I wholeheartedly agree!! What might be done to rectify - if the parents don't know better can the kid's be accountable? When these kids become adults and don't know better what's to become of their children? Who's going to educate the village, to educate the parents, to educate the children, to educate the village, so to speak??
