Do you really know what kids mean, well if you dont, kids are baby goats, So when you say kids that what you are refering to. Our children are not goats. Every body should start saying children instead of kids. Now ive made that mistake too until i stood corrected so now i want to make everybody else aware.

Learning is indeed fun and it gives us more information and insights. There are other colloquial language in modern day America that gained acceptance in the mainstream English language like fridge when you refer to refrigerator for all we know the word fridge came from Fridgedare one of the well known refrigerator in the US then. God bless.

I use the word kids also. I know that it does mean a baby goat, but the word itself has been used for many years to refer to children. I usually use the word child or children also unless I am referring to little ones. I try to use the correct language also. I wander how it got started to begin with to call our children kids?

I refer to my son as my kid, and I know what the real meaning is too. It's just something I grew up with, referring to children as kids. Heck, sometimes my son makes goat sounds anyways lol.

I sometimes mistakenly use the word kids too, but most of the time I do use children. I think sometimes we do it without even realizing.

So I figured I'd give everyone a head start on new affectations to call their "children". This is from Thesaurus.com for kid or baby. Other names for kid or baby: baby, bairn, calf, nipper, lollypop, snooky, sugar, tad, chick, papoose, deduction, dividend, cherub, sweetheart, babe, angel-face, write-off, crawler, button, butter cup, little one, little doll, dumpling, bambino, kiddo, darling, little alien, precious, and my favorite...youngin' Good luck on the name calling! Toodles!

According to Webster Dictionary, a kid is "a child or young person" as well as a "young goat". There are several words that refer to the young of more than one animal: cub (bear, lion, tiger, shark), pup (dog, rat, fur seal), and calf(cow, elephant, camel, whale) are just a few that come to mind. It is not uncomon for words to have more than one meaning. The Online Etymology Dictionary states that the word kid for a baby goat dates back to around the year 1200. In 1599 it was first recorded as slang for child, but came into common usage by the 1840's. Personally, since it has been well over 150 years since kid became commonly known to mean child, I will continue to use it when refering to my children.
