Reading Other's Responses Before Responding

I've noticed this on my own discussions and on the discussions of other's that you will see a response from someone who doesn't have a clue what has been said in previous posts or doesn't even have a clue what was said in the initial discussion post (will say something entirely irrelevant). I'm talking discussions with 2 pages or less of responses. Not ones with a whole bunch of responses because I know that it can be difficult to get through them all.
This has happened on several of my discussions and it gets tiring to repeat the same thing over and over or to bring attention to the initial post because their reponse either contains a question or statement that I've already addressed in a previous response.
Okay, I feel better now. LOL

My responses to any of the discussions is purely individualistic . It would never be influenced by fellow Loters' opinions. I can judge and express what is good or right . I am rather proud of my caliber to think free . Sorry I'm not prudish ...but humble and of a loving disposition .

And I think that's awesome. One's ability to be individualistic is what makes Mylot so interesting :)

Actually this is because of the "everyone wants IN" mentality. It doesn't matter whether something already has been said. I have something to say so I can answer the discussion and get my 2 cents. That's all I need to know. :P

I can definitely see that too. It's amazing how many different varieties there are to things. There's good intentions, not so good intentions, honest mistakes, careless mistakes. Whoa. LOL

Regarding this issue , i think mylot can let the one who start the discussion to highlight out some key points at a small area in the discussion so that people can actually read a summary of the discussion instead of just reading the start introduction only

If I find a responder has gotten off subject, is give them aegetive For those that don't seem to understand the subject I would just ignore. I don't think that you as a discussions starter has to answer every response I thnk that you too can end up saying the same thing over for each response.

Yeah, I tend to not respond to each response, but I am in this one for some reason. I tend to respond in those other discussions to say thanks, add a detail, or inform the poster that I "already said that above." LOL

Yeah, it happens all the time.
I'm sure part of it is language-barrier related, but sometimes you can tell that the responder only read the headline of the discussion. Laziness is a factor if you ask me...that and people trying to bank $5 a day for posting their behineys off.

Oh, I knew I was forgetting something (insert red-faced smiley here).
Keep in mind that a lot of people might have you on notify on and can only see your portion of the discussion before replying. I've noticed that when I get a notification for a new discussion, my only option is to respond to the discussion; but when I receive a notification from a comment I made and someone has responded, my option is to view the entire discussion.
Hopefully the latter option will save some of those repeated answers in some cases.

Oh wow, I didn't realize or I've never noticed that only some of the discussion may be visible in that case. Thanks for letting me know that.

In fact,I seldom read others responses before I make my response, because I'm afraid my opinion will be affected by others. Moreover I think the responses mainly aim at the discussion,so it's unnecessiary to read others' responses. To read is also ok and you can know much about other's opinion.

I can completely understand that. See, I had this experience in a discussion where first, he apparently didn't read it because he mentioned something that wasn't even in the discussion. He mentioned something else that had been in a previous post that he seemed to not understand and he would have had he looked at the post above his.
Thanks so much for responding :)

Ok i'm the type of person that will read the topic all the way through and then post what i think. I will read the responses after i type up my thoughts. If i have repeated what some one says even in a little way or in a different wording it's because of what i think and it just happens that great minds think alike. I don't want to sound selfish but this is how i feel. If i had to read all of the posts that where already written by other's then what would be the sinse of me posting any of my thoughts here on mylot? You have to remember that there are thousands of my lotters and some of us are bound to have the same thoughts on some of the subjects. It's just the way that life runs. Sorry if this is the wrong response that you where looking for but this is how i feel.

Oh, I understand you can't read all responses on a really long thread and I know great minds think alike. I don't read all the responses in a really long thread and now I don't blame anyone for not reading all the responses in this one because it is approaching four pages long. I recently had a discussion with just a few responses and a poster apparently didn't read my discussion all the way through nor did he read my response to a previous poster causing me to re-clarify myself. Part of what he said had nothing to do with my initial post. That's mainly what I've been talking about.

Hahahaha! Guess I'll repeat others even though I have read the responses here. I too respond from my emails to my friends discussions. So I don't see the other responses if there are any at all. This I like to do becuase then later I compare what I had to say to other responses. Just a way of testing what I have in common with non friends here of mine. Also I feel a lot of it is money involved. I respond also to make extra money. Whom doesn't. Sorry for repeating others responses. Hee hee.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

By mylot terms and conditions we are actually supposed to read the other responses before responding to them.
Most of us are unaware of that and i was too.Good that you brought this up cuz it made bring this to light.
At first i never used to read the other responses cuz that'll save time. But these i started reading atleast a few of them so that i dont have to cause redundancy in responses.

The same thing has happened to me a few times too. Mostly it seems to happen from the ones that don't comprehend what the original discussion was about, or speak english well enough to say what they really mean. I've got a few responses that are so "out there" that it makes you wonder if they made a mistake and replied to the wrong one.

I'm guilty of not always reading all the responses to a discussion, but it's usually only when the discussion is many pages long. If there's only a few reponses or a couple of pages, I'll read the whole thing before responding. I've only started 3 responses so far so I haven't had to repeat things yet but I can understand how that would be frustrating.
I'm still learning the ropes here so I'm glad you posted this; it sure has made me think about what I'm doing!

Well, that's not what the discussion was about exactly, but that's fine if you have no problem with that. It's all about personal opinion.

This can happen more often. I too don't read the previous post, all I do is think of the main discussion posted and then arrive with an answer then post. For me if I read the posts, its like I am copying or comparing my answers to others. As much as possible I would love not to be influenced by the responses of others. That's why I don't read other's response until I posted mine.
