I think I have the mumps now. I went to urgent care and they said it looks like an infection of both salivary glands. I look like a chipmunk. They gave me an antibiotic.
The doctor said since I had the shot it cannot be the mumps but we all know that sometimes vaccines do not work. I am in my 40's and way too old for this - LOL

Mumps is a viral infection that was common in children before routine immunization. The incubation period is 2-3 weeks. The illness usually starts with a fever, headache, and muscle aches. These are usually followed by swelling on one or both sides of the face and neck of the parotid salivary glands, which are just in front of and below the ears. Talking, eating, and drinking may be painful. Mumps is usually mild in children, but teenagers and adults may develop potentially serious complications.
There is no specific treatment for mumps. Painkillers will bring down a fever and relieve muscle aches and the pain of swollen glands.
For a child, give paracetamol. Adults can take paracetamol or ibuprofen.

Mumps is an infection that manifests itself through inflammation of cheeks. It can be transmitted to another person. One could also get fever with it.
I do not know exactly the details of the medicine to cure it, but I know that an injection is available that cures it.
