A Smoke Free Country - Do You Want One?

Hope this has not already been asked, apologies if Im repeating an old topic....but as some of you may know the U.K. is going smoke Free from July 1st, meaning you will not be allowded to smoke in any enclosed area that has been designated for work or public use, such a pubs, hotels, bars clubs, offices, buses, work vans..etc....etc....
If you are not from the U.K. how would you feel if this was introduced in your country, and do you think the authorities would be able to actually enforce it?
Do you think the would be a public backlash from those who feel that this is too much like being told how to live?
I am aware that some countries already have quite strict laws on smoking in public, If you were around when those laws were introduced, how did it affect you and what were your thoughts on the whole issue?

YES YES YES I'm all for it. I don't care if people smoke but I don't like getting all stinky all over and having to inhale second hand smoke, which kills. So I'd love it if it were banned everywhere

Smoking rules are getting stricter here as well with bans in nearly all public locations, I think it's a good thing. There are some designated areas where it is allowed, but outside of that it'll be over soon.

I'm really looking forward to it.
I've had all to many good nights out ruined by places being too smoky.
I get hangover-y symptoms being somewhere smoky. I get headaches, feel like I might be sick, feel exhausted and shaky.
over the past few years I've even found that I don't much enjoy going to see bands, which I used to love, as the venues are far too smoky now, even the ones with the big no smoking signs.
selfish people choose to ignre the no smoking signs, chainsmoke, don't get asked not to by the venue staff (and I don't dare ask them not too, because they'd probably hit me or at least be abusive to me)
why should I be the one to waste the cost of my gig ticket and ruin a night out when it's a non smoking venue, and they're the ones in the wrong.

I'm also really fed up of something else that happens a lot.
there's an enclosed shelter at the train station and if it's raining I'll sit in there, but there's some selfish thing that will sit in there and light up, so I end up going and standing out in the rain.
how bloody rude of them.

i think that this rule is really good to help people stop smoking and also for the people who hate smokers. i have never smoked, and i also don't like smokers, and if this rule was introduced in my country, i would really support and like this rule

I'm really sorry to offend, but I think this is absolutely insane. I realize secondhand smoke is dangerous, but what happened to everyone having some freedoms?? I certainly think smokers can be more respectful of others, but smokers do have rights as well. I would never want to live in a country this heavyhanded.

Already established in Ontario
I am a smoker Yea yea I know
To a certain extent I agree with the laws but......
What about the older people who live in homes (which they pay for) and aren't able to smoke even in their own rooms. After working and being able to pay where they chose to live They should have equal opportunity.
How about private institutions Say Legions where we pay a membership fee to join. It should up each individual Legion branch to decide what they want to do We already had a law passed to state when children are present no smoking But now we can't smoke at all.
I think it is all rubbish

PS Gave you a + rating if I do disagree whith some of it

So far I know, there is no such smoke free country. Obviously some countries have strict law against smoking in public area. My opinion in this regard, all countries should have to implement this type laws to stop smoking and prevent uncurable diseases.

I am a smoker, but I am ok with this law. I can walk outside and smoke when in public, I already do in most places. It seems that in most parts of the US it is already illegal to smoke in alot of places. Its not that big of a deal to me. It is really up to the non smokers weither this law be effect. If you all really think second hand smoke is killing you that much, then by all means make it illegal to smoke near you...
