I'm moving back to New South Wales from Victoria as I've had a bit of a rough streak. I'm really nervous about it. Could you all hope for the best for me or keep me in your prayers? Whatever you're comfortable with. I'm gonna need all the help I can get.

I don't know what is your problem...
You are obviously mixing with the wrong kind of people... or you cannot afford to rent in the right kind of suburb.
I have been living in Sydney for 35 years and I never had a single problem with people.
Sydney is free easy going... while Melbourne is a bit snobbish. But it does not matter where you live if you are going to live amongst second class citizen with no education.

I came in Australia in 1970... at the time when French people were not too popular because of the French nuclear testing in the Pacific.
There is one thing about Australia (and I approve of it)... if you come to live in Australia... you are expected to agree with Australians.
If you come here as an American patriot wanting to defend America... you are going to find yourself in heaps of trouble.
John Howard playing "Buddies" with George Bush does not reflect the opinion of the Australian people. John Howard does his job... and that is to be friend with America for economic and military reasons. John Howard is wise and planning for the future of Australia.
The people on the other hand only think of today and don't understand anything about economics and world order. The people lives in fantasy land. If we did let the people rule Australia... we would be a banana republic... as Paul Keating once said. The people did not like him either.
Don't mention America... and you will be alright. Contrary to believes... America is not popular with the people anywhere in the world. But Americans are so full of themselve that they cannot accept this.

Oh I know better than to be defensive of the US. There are a lot of things, funny enough, the ones that get brought up to me that I'm not very proud of also. I have never ended up disagreeing with someones opinion of the US. (Though I have insured that people know some weird regional stereotypes aren't true. That doesn't start a fight) I have, however had people sit and try to dig up more and more crap trying to offend me until they made themselves angry and lashed out at me. I usually one up their rude comments about Bush and people in the US being fat etc... rather than getting all angry
The problem I have is when people decide not to like me because of where I'm from no matter what I do. And there is an amazing amount of people that are like that. I don't really care who doesn't like me as long as it's for a reason I can help and rather than jumping in my crap like teenagers, why don't they stay the hell out of my way if they don't like me?
By the way. I have the opportunity to get citizenship in a couple of months. If I get that do you think they will let me by with just saying I'm Australian? Probably not.

I was living in Geelong and to be honest the people there were far nicer than here. I just ended up in a bad streak and had to come back up here. It's a LONG story. Did you not say you were from France before? I don't know what they would have against French people. I have caught a lot of flak about where I come from, my accent, "my" president, war, my countrymen being fat and lazy and tons of other stereotypes from TV. I think part of the problem is that I came over here with high expectations of people because in the US we regard Aussies very highly kind of automatically. I think the whole situation might improve this time around as I no longer feel like taking any crap off anybody =P.

I've moved numerous times through out my life, following better jobs and a brighter future. And, almost always I end up in a better situation. I know that some people feel that you should just make the best of the situation you're at, but sometimes that's just not possible. Best of luck on your move. I'm sure you'll do well where ever you land.

I have moved a lot also. I'm one of those "grass is always greener" types, but I think I'm right a lot of the time. Thanks for wishing me luck.

Here's lots of happy positive thoughts going your way. Hope all goes well with the move and that you'll be happier in a new environment and that it will be a better place for you overall. I know it's not easy to move. I've done that numerous times as well due to many different reasons. But at the end of the day, it's all about what we make of it and how well we adapt. Good luck!
