How is the speed of typing on a type writer measured ?

Is it measured the total number of words typed per minutes / letters per minutes ? And what if a word is typed mistakenly.

That was an interesting piece of information. But I could not find the link that is being mentioned in the site about taking a typing test. Otherwise, that was cool.
