Shoutcast is a multiplatform freeware audio streaming technology, develope by nullsoft. Shoutcast uses MP3 or AAC encoding of audio content and HTTP (through multicast can be used) as the transport protocol to broadcast webradio, also know as Internet Radio. Both servers and clients are available for Palm OS, Windows, FreeBSD, GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, Solaris and windows mobile(client only).
Shoutcast software allows users to setup there own internet radio server using provided software. The output format is supported by multiple clients including Nullsoft, VLC media player, XMMS, Zinf and Apple iTunes. Using the software, users may set up radio servers for their own needs. Current uses include listening to music, watching video and listening to live events.
