You would think I would learn to back up everything but no that doesn't happen. Yesterday my computer crashed and they had to restore it. I lost everything. Now today I have to spend hours trying to redownload everything. I hate doing this. I also hate that I don't have any of my favorites left so now have to try to remember how I found some of them. It drives me nuts. I store way too much on my computer that I should actually make hard copies of. This is the second time in a year this has happened to me. You think this time I will learn? Yeah probably not*L* I get an address or phone number and store it on the computer then opps it's gone. I hate this happening. Well hopefully I will learn someday!!

cheongyc..we can take it to another level partition the harddisk into 3. the 3rd partition MUST be fat32. the first 2 can be ntfs if you are uing winxp. first partition is os and second is data storage...just like cheonyc said. 3rd partition however must not be assign a drive letter meaning you cannot see it from within windows. get norton ghost. use it to capture the image of your os partition and store the image in partition 3. now whenever your computer crashes, you only need 5 minutes to restore EVERYTHING in the os partition to its original state.

hmmmmmm..that would be hard. best i can do is say, 1. partition hard disk into 3 equal size parts (for simplicity sake) 2. format drive C: and 2nd partition as NTFS filesystem. format 3rd partition as FAT32 filesystem. 3. buy Norton Ghost software and copy the "image" of drive C: to the 3rd partition. 4. you are done. if you computer crash, use Norton Ghost to restore the "image" in 3rd partition to back to drive c: main drive is always drive C: i say 3rd or 2nd partition is because, the 2nd and 3rd partition may have different drive letters allocated to them. after that whatever you do, do not tuch or use the 3rd drive. Do no even defragment the 3rd drive. if the file structure of the imgae file is moved 1 bit, you cannot restore back because Norton Ghost will flag it as corrupted image. sorry thats the best i can do but it does still look geek speak. : (

I had two crashes. I lost lot of important documents which I stored in them. I lost of contact numbers and so on. It worst things if computer's hard disk crashes. On the second crash due to experience of previous crash I got 70% of the very important data in my CD. Therefore I was able to load them again. From the first crash I used to copy all the information into my CD and keep them for future use.

You know, I always keep thinking it will not happen again. But just as that deadline for that important assignment is due and you have 3/4 of your work saved on your comp, 'POOF' and all the words banned in this forum and some new ones escape my mouth. I have all my important stuff that I work on in my thumbdrive. That way, anytime I need to access my work I just plug inmy thumbdrive and save as soon as Im done. But things like music and photographs (memories) are gone forever.*sob These people can dig and dig and get discrete videos from celebrities comps and what not, you would think they can help you retrieve your memories....but noooooo

computer - Computer CPU
yeah. that's one of the most annoying things that can happen to me when using the computer. what makes it worst is when you are in the middle of a project, or doing something else, and then the pc crashes while you haven't saved what you are doing! arrrrgh.. that's just really frustrating.

I get frustrated when this happens to me and I don't know what to do. I usually lose all my folders and photos I have stored and even my music. GRRR. I have to rely on my husband who is a computer techy to fix it and if he is not available then I have to wait until he is and thats usually not until he gets home after work, after having dinner and then having a shower and taking a rest. Our laptop is a very old model and its crashed on us several times and its so slow, so we decided to invest in a new one. Lets hope I have less trouble with this one :)

Sure, such kind of problem always drives me crazy. Therefore, it's better to have different drivers, if your hard disk is large enough. And do not store anything under drive C. Sometimes I will record something important into a DVD to store it.

Well this happens to every computer user once in life n happened quite a few times when i was a novice..but nowadays i dont ever take a chance n i make my hard copies within 24 hours of getting something new because i dont really afford to lose GBs of data in a nano second n cry for it a day n sweat a week recovering them...may be u r taking time to learn but u'll definitely learnt it someday..happy recovery!!....lol...

I think most people have made this mistake. Or forgot to save something when refromatting your harddrive. But to be on the safe side, make backups!

I can remember my despair, years ago, when Michelangelo virus destroyed my hard disk's FAT, and once again, when ants! fed upon a new HD where I had recently copied all of my archives. But you can be preventive. Use Windows Live Toolbar's Favorites that synchronizes your desktop favorites with an Internet archive. It's nice because you can access them from every place. Suscribe to a free internet backup, it connects automatically, so you don't have to bother. Failing is human (and computers'), learning from failure still more!

If it's a hardware problem, say a hard disk damage, then your files is absolutely at risk. But if its only a software, say the operating system (i.e. XP), then your files are 100% recoverable. But still, you should follow the rules - BACKUP!

I learned my lesson the last time my pc crashed so nowadays I back up regularly. I make my living online so losing a lot of the stuff on my hard drive is a disaster for me - it certainly was the last time. It took me ages to get everything back to normal again.

Everyone's computer crashes at some point. The way to get out from crash without loosing any of your information is to download I thing the name of the program was Partition Magic and to make one partition only for your windows so that is the only thing there and that's it you format the crashed partition and everything is fine. Also there was one program but I forget her name. It's for adding some programs to the install disk of windows so these programs will install with the windows. I have made one windows and I really don't have to download everything. For example I erased Internet explorer and I put a firefox setup. I put bitcomet skype and I delete some of the programs that I don't use like MSN. It is not recommended to delete something to put another but just it make more space in the setup disk.

The exact same thing happened to me last November, so when I got a new computer, i started storing all my favorites links in an email and not on my computer. When my computer crashed, I lost everything; affiliate logins, passwords. I was just left guessing at lots of stuff. That's like the third time it happened. So, no, I guess a person never does really learn their lesson. I didn't. I'm still storing all my favorite downloads directly on my computer. It's probably the downloaded stuff that made my computer crash anyway.

Yeah. I really hate that instance especially when im downloading a program and it is quite big. Then suddenly your computer will hang, you cannot move the cursor. You are pressing Ctrl +Alt+Del over and over again and nothings happening.

Ok, let's see, so most of you forget to make copies and back ups of their computer data. And for some people that is something that they must do and they don't complain about it. Well maybe you should try to do it too. Try remmembering that accidents happen and that the information on your comp is important to you. I make back ups once to twice a month but my comp haven't crashed more than one year, but I still do copies of my computer data because it is important to me... As I said before: Accidents happen
