lawsuit from car accident

has anyone been in an auto accident and had been the victim and sued the person that was responsible? how long did it take to settle and how much did you get?
i am now suing over an auto accident that wasnt our fault. we are suing a toys r us tractor trailer right now. once they settle, which my lawyer seems to think they will do without a fight, then i am going to sue the driver of the other car. (the tractor trailer rear ended a car and he was pushed head on into us as we were driving the opposite way of them). the police report blames the tractor trailer, but we believe that it was the cars fault. he was trying to make an illegal left, over double yellow lines and this is how he was pushed into us, the oncoming traffic. had he not been trying to turn left and had his wheel already turning left, he wouldnt have hit us.
if anyone has been in a situation where they sued, fill me in on some details, as i know nothing about all of this.

I've never sued anyone before in a traffic accident. I wish to offer my good luck to you- I hope that you are able to get some cash- I remember in a prior post that you guys lost quite a bit of work, and money on bills due to the accident- I hope that your family is able to make this back up and then some for all the worrying you have done- would imagine that they would settle quickly-- Toys R US-- but be sure that you make sure it is what you want- Get a great lawyer- I've heard of people settling early and losing out- so just make sure you are happy with what they have to offer. It might be hard to get anything from the other driver-- if the report puts blame on the turck driver- You'll probably end up going to court on this one- Are there any witnesses? The other driver could just say that the impact of getting hit by the truck made them jerk into your lane- Good luck to you and your family!

thank you for your well wishes!! i appreciate it!! i am hoping that they settle fairly quickly with a decent amount. we deserve something for all the trouble and my hand will never be at 100% again as far as i am concerned. it is much better than it was but every now and then it starts to act up. my kids couldve been injured so much worse than they were and i am so thankful that we all survived!! but someone still needs to pay, you know? i got stuck with a car loan to a car that is totalled and i had to buy a new one on top of it. i will let you know how it turns out!!
