Ok, it is that time of year here again in the States. Time to break out the grill and start cooking out in the yard. But which grill to use? Electric, Gas, or the old fashioned way with Charcoal? I myself prefer to use charcoal, but I like the way the new gas grills look, just wish I could find a charcoal grill that looked like a gas grill, that isn't a smoker, because they are so hard to clean and to get the grill height right on. Most of the charcoal grills now-a-days are either these little square things or kettle drum types, and I don't really care for either.
What kind of grill do you use? Gas, charcoal, or electric?

I love our gas grill. It is ready to use in no time. I hate using charcoal because it takes so long for it to get ready before you can actaully cook on it.

I use an electric grill. We have had charcoal and gas grills. I do like the taste of charcoal best, but I add lava rock to the bottom of the electric grill, under the element and the food has a wonderful grilled flavor. It sits on the porch, all I have to do is plug it in and turn it on to the setting that I want, which is usually the highest setting. By the time I prepare the meat and veggies, the grill is ready to go.
I have had comments made on how good the food taste. Without the lava rock you might as well cook the food on the inside range because you just aren't going to have that grilled flavor.

I like a gas grill. It's easy to cook with. My wife likes charcoal. She likes the taste of food cooked with charcoal. We've never tried electric.

We personally don't own a grill because we are in an apartment, but My brother and both sisters have grills. Between the 3 there is 2 charcoal grills and 2 gas grills.
Charcoal is good for things that you want to cook through, and give it the smokey grill taste. I love ribs on a charcoal grill. But just for hot dogs and hamburgers I prefer the gas grill.
The one advance that makes the gas grill more useful is the flavored wood chunks you can use to get various flavors of smoke even from the gas grill. They can be used with both gas and charcoal grills to get a specific taste and smell.
I am not a fan of an electric grill if you are going to be out bar b cueing, although I would like to try the George Foreman grill, the one that is on a stand and is the size of a gas grill, just to see how it works for times when you want something quick.
It is all a matter of choice anyway, gas is more convenient, charcoal is the smokey taste. And now the shapes of charcoal grills are either the kettle for a backyard grill that stays put and the small square ones are for travel.

I love a charcoal grill! It is the only kind of grill I will use. I don't care about how much time it takes to get the grill going, or the work involved in cleaning the grill. I want food that tastes like it has been cooked outdoors. I think gas grill are fine for people that want to take a short cut and save time. Summer is a time for being outside and smelling the real scent of a BBQ, just like back in the day when we were growing up as kids. And after dinner all the kids would put marshmellows on sticks, and roast them over the almost dying embers from the coals. At one time I owned a Chuck Wagon Grill. It was not a smoker grill, and this grill could cook anything. I had bought it at K-Mart, like 8 years ago. Today I do use a Kettle grill & I love it.
