I just read an article that stated the residents of North Carolina will be getting help looking after their elderly and disabled, It seems that there is a federal grant of 16.9 million dollars to pay for assistance to keep the elderly and disabled out of nursing homes and in their own. Now that is far thinking, because it costs approximately 50 thousand a year to keep one person in a nursing home. Now they will be able to stay at home and have assistance in staying there, with outside help now 550 elderly and disabled will be able to stay in their own homes This is such good news and I hope it is watched by all government as the cost are going to sky rocket in the next few years, and they are looking at billions of dollars, and of course the regular tax payer is going to have to pick up the tab. I congratulate the person or people that put this "follow the person plan", I have included the link so that you may read the story your self.

Hi Rose, the seniors are not forgotten, they are just being ignored, that is a politicians way of saying I have no idea on how to deal with you and your situation, so if I ignore you you may just give up and go away. I have new and startling news for all politicians , you have no idea what is coming your way, and you will, I promise not ever forget it

That is so awesome. And it's about time too. Our elderly looked after us when we were young and unable to fend for ourselves, so I think that they deserved to be cared for in their time of need, as do our disabled citizens. Thank you for posting that hon. It is very good news.

well lets see how much of the grant reaches the deserving elders, coz you know how the bureaucracy is, lets hope for the best, but its nice to hear that they are doing something for the senior citizens.....

It's good to hear news like that Robin, and also good to know that some people with foresight are being listened to for a change. It just makes so much sense for the elderly and disabled to stay in their own homes with assistance, rather than be stuck away in a nursing home. I'm sure they would feel a lot happier and at the same time, lessen the taxpayers contributions. Let's hope other states follow North Carolina's lead.

I think this is a greast idea and means that people are able to stay in their own homes with more dignity than than they have been able to beforehand and this will enable them to do more for themselves and remain in the community.
