I just got back from a visit to Cali and intend to move there now but there is one thing that really bugs me, wtf is up with you people on the road?!? In any major city, you have about 50% of people that drive like idiots. California is different from the rest of the country in that about 90% drive like fools and not just in the cities or on the highway, it's EVERYWHERE! For those of you that live in Cali please believe me when I say, stupid AND crazy is always a dangerous combination ... especially on the roads! You have a beautiful state with beautiful weather, just enjoy it. Slow down! Speeding up then stopping on the bumper of the car in front of you does NOT clear up traffic jams nor does cutting people off! You should ALL know this by now, you pass accidents daily. The people in those flipped over cars are JUST like you and look what happened.

Yeah LA is nuts. But in case you didn't know - when you buy a luxury car, you also own the road! It's in very very tiny print in the contract. LOL - I am joking of course! Although I am convinced that it is the truth
I live in OC, just south of LA - and yes it's nuts. But we have alot of people in this state - so do the math! More drivers ups the percentage of driving lunatics.
Sorry you had such a bad time driving here...

I guess since I grew up with it, I don't notice or mind. I don't like people riding my tail, but people don't do that to me because I'm not a jerk. One of my friend's moms insists on driving 65 in the fast lane. And then gets mad that people flip her off and ride her bumper. Well, if you're not a jerk people won't be a jerk back.
I think people in this state are probably more skilled drivers in certain areas at least. Lot at the ratio of people and how fast we drive to how many accidents. I think overall we're doing pretty good.
At least, we were until my friend got her license.

Since I wrote this, I have moved to California and been hit by a car just trying to walk across the street. Even though technically it was the drivers fault, I blame myself. I was watching the driving and KNEW she had no clue I was there because she was NOT watching, I thought she was watching traffic, my bad. I thought surely she won't drive out infront of the guy doing 50 mph in the 30 mph zone! I was wrong, if she hadn't hit me as a pedestrian, she would have hit the guy speeding and most likely spun both cars out of control creating a huge traffic hazard. I have since learned to walk BEHIND cars at stops signs because these oxygen wasters have no clue how to drive, how to be courteous, or what the laws are. I can only wish more of them collide head on and die horrible burning deaths so that fewer can breed and perpetuate this idiocy.

Well, first of all, where were you in California? Because in the area I live in is pretty much like anywhere else in the U.S. And after you've been to Europe, even L.A. traffic is mild.
So where were u?
And where did you want to move to?
Myabe I can give you some pointers.

Dont' mean to be rude or anything, but La to Modesto is about a 1/4 the length of the state in the mid area. And yes, I am very familiar with that area considering I am traveling it at least 3 times a month. And no wonder you were so shocked by the driving you were in the worst area's in CA for driving. Starting in LA and going up the 5-North right? Don't get me wrong, California drivers are bad compared to most states. But to be fair you were in the worst part possible for driving. I would rate San Francisco #1 and Los Angeles #2. Some of the best driving and most beautiful cities I've been to in California were in the Northern parts - closer to Oregon, and near Santa Barbara. Those would definitely be my top places to live in Cali.

They didn't create the term "L.A Driver" for nothing. Yeah, people absolutely drive like nutjobs here. I think they don't drive horribly, but they do speed. I did hear about a study they did on the news. They found like like %50 of the people in California drove at least 20 miles over the speed limit. I believe it. Here when you are going the speed limit on the freeway EVERYBODY is passing you. Most people are going at leat 85 or 90 (If it's not at a peak traffic time). My husband who is an native Angelino drives like that, it drives me crazy! I've been all around the U.S and California is the worst by far.
