You are never too old to follow your dreams How many of you agree with this expression. I believe that yes there are certain things that you are too old to start at any advanced age, they say that unless you start ballet dancing young you will never be able to support your weight on your toes as an adult But I do agree that there are still things you can do at an older age, and we only think we can't because society tries to convince us we can't So do you agree that you are never too old or do you disagree. Give examples to support your opinion. And just as an extra treat if you have time, check out this 81 year old woman's video. http://www.dailyherald.com/galleries/benskate/index.html

Generally I agree with the statement that you are never too old to old to do what you want to do, however there are some limitations. I don't think you would be sucessful if at age 65 or 70 you decided to become a firefighter, a doctor or nuclear scientist. But there are so many other things an older person can embark on. It depends on your physical and mental limitations. Did you know the oldest person ever to graduate from university was 95 years old. She lives in Canada and graduated this year together with her granddaughter. What a feat!

It is never too old to so something you are passionate about. Like I love soccer and played the game actively till very recently. Now I can't as age seems to have caught on. So what do I do? I start coaching. It's just as exciting to be among the kids and sometimes even adults. I mention this because many a time it becomes difficult to identity what exactly to do to pursue your dreams. You simply reduce on the physical part and start sharing your knowledge in a particular field. Just be passionate about it. It will work or at least you will enjoy trying to make it work.

you are right,my friend. When you have alertness of mind and in sound physical health, there is absolutely nothing that you cannot do in life with the exception of artistic and athletic performances.

One of my friends is a 76-year old who continues to drink like a fish and has decided to set up a new business at an age when most people are working hard to play with their grandchildren. Many people have underestimated my friend. I think they think of him as being too old to be able to do very much. However, they've underestimated him at their peril-therefore proving that age is merely a number

I agree to a certain extent. It depends on what one expects to do. Quoting the ballet dancing example, I would think it is still possible for the old to do ballet dancing. Though they might not be as nimble as the young kids, there is still a possibility for the old to realise the dream. The toes can be "trained" to support the weight, at least, that was the impression I got from my yoga class. It takes time, but it is not impossible.

it is not possible, that is one dance that has to be learned young. that doesn't mean a person can do other forms of dancing like jazz ballet but not the real ballet. They would brake their feet.

Yes I agree with that as long as you don't fall into the Categorie of thinking you are old because of the Age you are I always say you are as old as you feel and if you keep that in your Mind you can carry on and fulfill your Dreams

I agree with this thought. We always have dreams we want to try to reach. It is good to always try. That is what keeps us going some days. You never know what can happen from them as well.

I know a girl who spent 5 years of her life studying mass communications. She then landed a job and after about a year felt it wasn't right for her. She wanted to be a nurse. Although she was still young she thought of going to school again with students 3-4 years younger than her makes her old. Anyway after sometime I heard she eventually finished her nursing degree and even topped the board exams. So I guess following your dreams isn't restricted to how old you are but on what you can actually do.

That's right! I like reading about people who never gave up chasing their dreams because it's really inspiring and it helps me to remain focused too. Thanks for sharing! ~Joey

I completely agree with you. There are some things that you can't really start at an advanced age, like the ballet dancing you gave as an example. But there's so many other things you can start later on - like education, foster parenting, teaching and other vocations, writing, art, etc. etc. etc. It's never too late to gain knowledge and experience just by living. I really hope to be learning and growing throughout my life; it'll keep me happy and fulfilled and involved in the world.

Wow, what an inspirational video. And the great thing about it is that she looks so happy skating, just think of all the energy she used on that performance - absolutely awesome. With regards to age - I think you're as old as you feel. There are some people who are 50 and are old and some who are 80 (as we just witnessed) that are young! Obviously we do have some limitations to what we can and can not do in this lifetime but I've always been a firm believer in the cliche, 'it's never too late'. There are lots of things that I aspire to do and I do hope that age won't restrict me in the future. I also think that ageism plays a part in what we can and can't do, for instance, some people won't give you a chance if they feel you are too old, particularly in the workforce which is a shame. Anyway, after seeing that video, I think we can do anything!

Yeah, people are getting smarter these days. They realized that this thing of "i'm too old to do it" it's notting at all... There are people that did somethings like be a doctor just because their parents said so, and today they gave up on it to start doing another thing, that was his/her dream since a child... It's better this way, you can be much happier than you can imagine, just doing something that you really likes. Parachuting, rafting, travel around the world, no matter what, if it's your dream, you'll be greatfull to do it... I hope I can do it too... =]

That is amazing. She is an inspiration. I think that if we want to write a novel ,start a new career,or go back to school,we should do it.Today I watched Diane Keaton in Just Because I said so, she has not had plastic surgery and continues to work in an industry which is mostly about young people and in the movie she falls in love just as she turns 60. We must not let society convince us that as we grow older we do not have much to offer.

There are some things we may have dreamed of in our youth that we can no longer do in our old age. But those are mostly things that require physical attributes that we no longer have. And there is nothing we can do about that. However, we may be able to do some portion of the dream. For instance, you may not be able to take up ballet at 65 years of age and be able to support your weight on your toes. But you can dance and learn to be physically graceful as long as your body is capable. Male ballet dancers don't dance on point, but they are no less ballet dancers. But you are never to old to dream new dreams. There are many examples of people who have gone back to college or learned a totally new occupation after retirement. Grandma Moses was an "old woman" when she began painting. The important thing is to dream and to move toward your dreams at whatever age you are so that you don't end up with nothing but regrets.

Yes, I feel that you're never too old to do certain things. A perosn does have their limits as you mentioned. I tried to take up running at the ripe old age of 48 and further injured my back. So, I think that physically, we might not be able to do some things at an older age. Of course I am also overweight and so running was probably not the best thing to try to begin. lol Now, mentally I feel sharper than ever. I love learning and reading others opinions. I love the computer and all of the information it brings at my fingertips. I'd love to go back to school and get a degree. I don't feel that society respects older adults as much as they use to, especially in America. But, that's another issue for another thread. lol

Wow,I don't believe that the women has been 81years old now. It's so shock to me.She looks very younger in the skating rink. She was not feel old in the skating. It's a good things for everybody.I think i find a impetus from her. I agerr with you, people are never too old to hanker their dreams. You can make great efforts never too old.But i think many things will do in the small age,it's need congenital efforts. Many people pay out some of the efforts but they only get small achievement. In this society, the world developing very fast so we can incessant studying by yourself.People hanker dreams in sometimes of all life.I think people can get succeed as long as they get efforts and insist on everyday.I wish every people's dreams will come ture.Good wish to everybody.lol...

I think you can do anything as long as you believe you can.Its kind of like when someone get pregnant at a young age and everyone say well there goes their life and hope for the future well its not age or your sitiuation that holds you back you frame of mind is what holds you back if you believe you can do it then i think you can do anything no matter what.
