Dealing with teething?

How did you all deal with teething? My two sons, one teethed for about a week before his tooth popped up. The other, he teethed for about 2 months before his first tooth came out. Now, our daughter is 8 months old, doesn't have any teeth, but has had all the syptoms and signs of teething for the past 2 months but still no teeth. Has anyone else had to deal with a long teether? What did you do?

Have you tried hylands teething tablets? They worked well on my son, sometimes it's just the moving down of the teeth that hurt too and that can take forever! Here's a link to a store locator http://www.hylands.com/sl2.php Also let her chew on a clean cool rag or some cold teething "chew toys".

Those teething tablets were GREAT for my son's but with her, they don't seem to have any effect. She will sit there, gnawing on her hand, wailing, forever. She doesn't like the washcloth or the teething toys either (she's a finicky baby). She'll only gum at her hand (or my knuckles). She's been so miserable lately that all she's wanted to do is nurse too, that's also one of the few things I can do to calm her down when she really gets to crying.

With my daughter's teething experience, I always rub some cold honey on her gums, and I gave her a teether toy as well..

What I've always heard is not to give a baby under 2 years old honey because of the risk of botulism. But there are a few things that I have been told that I would not do (I will not rub whiskey on her gums either). LOL Right now we are trying a combination of several teething toys, I hope that helps some.

My 2nd daughter had all the symptoms around 4 months old but did not have a single tooth in her little head until she was about 9 months old or so. The doctor told us that the teeth were coming down but not breaking through the gums. It sounded really painful. We used a lot of Hylands Tablets, which are the most amazing things since sliced bread. If you try them, only try one at first. A girl I know gave some to her son and he had a slight allergic reaction. But we used the Hyland Teething Tablets and Tylenol when needed and always kept otter pops in the fridge for her to suck on. Good luck! Teething is ouchy and never a whole lot of fun.

I hope to just wake up one morning and, poof, there's the tooth and no more crying. LOL. She's had the teething tablets since she showed symptoms so we know she's not allergic. I just hate to see her in so much pain.

I had a pediatrician who does things differently than American doctors do. He was Cuban. He had me buy the very small bagels and freeze them. He also had me buy medium size pickles. I needed to watch my boys for choking that never did happen, but a frozen bagel or a cold pickle for them to gnaw on and really sink their coming thru teeth into helped greatly. You need to watch them very closely but it worked very well. And I still have the bagels and pickles disappearing from the fridge now that they've grown up.

A friend of mine recommended carrots. The big ones (not the little baby carrots). Just scrape off the outer skin, chop off the leafy end and give her the carrot to gnaw on. I did try that and it worked well for about a week, now the carrot just gets tossed aside. The great thing about a carrot though is that it is SO hard the baby cannot chomp off a piece so while you still have to watch 'em, there is a much less chance of them choking.
