I Have a Great Idea for Mylot!

I was just thinking what if Mylot just got rid of or deleted the whole "star ratings" system and tried something new for a change. Well then I started thinking about a good idea that I thought would be better than the current system. Then it just hit me, I thought what if Mylot hand picked some "MVPs". Basically the idea is if the staff at Mylot felt that you have made high quality contributions in the community then they would give you MVP status. I was thinking they could pick a few people every month to gain this status. I thought it would be a good idea, but what about everyone else...what do you think? Also keep in mind with what I have in mind people wouldn't be rating you, so there would be way less chance of losing your stats.

I have noticed that all the bashing of other myLotters that was going on 2 weeks ago has ended. Some people did rate the bashers negatively and that helped. But not quite enough.
It also helped when everyone's ratings went down. The last few cleaned up their act when they realized that if they kept on bashing they'd drop down very fast and myLot would do it to them.
For keeping the bashers at bay and encouraging all to not bash the star system works well.
Don't you like it better when the bashers quit? I know I do. Think before you bash, people, and be willing to accept the consequences when you do...it's not for no reason.

Well, I suppose I can't argue that it's a bad idea, though I'm quite happy with my 9 star...rather have a 10, but I'll live.
That is pretty creative, and they mods just might go for it.
I just hope it doesn't open up a big can of plagiarism from those that "have" to be at the top.

I think the reason many people contribute here is to get their stats up! Getting rid of them may drive quite a few people away, Although it is a good idea I think it may lead to a lot of jealousy amongst those who do not get chosen, What if one person got chosen for several months in a row? People would start to get annoyed that they werent MVP and this other person was so much, Maybe just because they contributed more than someone who gives valid opinions or answers, I think the rating system would be better if mylot admin rated us! Being rated by others means that you can be slandered by someone who doesnt agree with your opinion say and I dont think that is right either. I also think that the mylot staff would have their work cut out if they had to choose say 10 MVPs a month from the 91000 members! Lol. Tis a thought though and it is great that you are trying to think of new ways to make mylot better, some people don't care as long as they get their money! Best wishes x

I think that is a good idea also. I think Mylot definitely needs to make some better changes here for alot of the members because alot of them are getting disgusted and are leaving over the way the sytem is being ran right now. they are losing points and earnings and they do not know why and their rating is going down also. I think they should be the one to rate us and not the members because some members are giving others bad ratings for no reason.

Your welcome. I think they need to make some better changes soon also. I have noticed that our earnings hhave also went way down for the amount of work we do here. Something is definitely not going right here. We are losing points and earnings alot for some reason too and members are leaving because of it.

Yes, thanks for agreeing wth me, I really think some new and improved changes are definitely in order, otherwise we'll keep losing and losing people. Hopefully they'll take to heart what's going on and do something. Well I suppose that's just hopeful wishing LOL.

Well Chris honey I think that in theory this is a good idea but in practise it would lead to more backstabbing and controversy - that is human nature! What one person thinks of as quality and valued input is different than another persons opinion! I think that at the end of the day we should just enjoy ourself here on mylot and not worry about the stars and ratings so much - just enjoy it!

Yeah well i'm not really worried about my ratings anymore. I just thought maybe a change would be cool to experiment with, but you are right as good as it sounds it could very well might end up causing even more problems.

Sorry Chris didn't mean to rain on your Parade sweetheart! It is a really good idea and like all the great ideas works fantastically well until you factor in the worst sides of human nature! You are so sweet that you think everyone feels the way you do - I wish they did! At least you are trying to improve the site rather than just complaining! Good for you Chris! xxx

Interesting idea, and probably a Good thought. Maybe like pick the top 10 Contributors for the month as in quality, etc. and then rotate each month unless their is someone that they truly feel deserves to always be there.
Another site I am on does Profile of the month, and awards them for it, and mylot could maybe reward like $10 if you are in the top 10 per person or something like this.
Maybe myLot staff will read this post, and take some of these suggestions into consideration for a Future update?

I think it would be great if Mylot paid more for those who had and kept the higher ratings. Of course like anything, abuse is always possible and someone would figure out how to abuse the system. I think that your idea is good but it seems that it would increase the amount of time that mylot administrators would have to spend in determining who should get the MVP rating.

I think that's a great idea. I think there should be a listing of the highest rated people. Maybe, also, there should be a bonus for people who are at the top. Perhaps, they can pay them an extra few cents for every day that they are on that list.

Yeah I'm really loving that few extra cents idea, as I'm sure most people would LOL. That's a great idea though, thanks for your feedback and have a great day :D

While the stars are indeed misused and not impacting our earnings. Getting some sort of competition going is not wise for an equal opportunity earning by participating system. Not sure we really need something to rate us. It is misused as I said and with it not impacting our earnings the thing it was meant for as an encouragement for people to improve is not needed.

youa re the one that lost your good rating, aren´´t you? Well, it´s a good idea, I really don´t care much about the rating but probably you did and that´s good, it encourages a lot ins´t it? Now you have to keep going ´cause we don´t want to lose good writers like you, my lot has to do something for people losing points.

Well ChrisRock19, I have not thought of the rating system at all when I started posting out here. The feeling of being part of so many discussions out here is sufficient to motivate me to continue posting. Being paid for it gives me a real good feeling. About MVPs, I would think that a system that works for nearly 100,000 members would be good enough for me.

Hi,Chris, you are so creative.it is always good to take a change, which may bring something better. As a new guy being here,I haven't figured out the real problem of the old rules, but I am so happy that people here can pay their attentions to improve mylot, which then can benefit all .

I think it's a pretty good idea, but I actually prefer the star idea. Sorry, not trying to put you down. But I can see how the MVP thing would cause trouble. I think people would get mad if they were never picked and they worked hard. Good idea though! :)

So what if the MVP's start taking too much credit for what they are and start misbehaving with the others. That way it'll be hell for the other non-MVP mylotters.Dont you think so?
And the other mylotters will be left helpless not able to report their acts to the mylot team.So I guess the current system is actually good. You just have to behave yourself in a way pleasing to everyone and thats the way you preserve your star.It works pretty good too.

There are so many members would Mylot's admin be able to do this? They'd have to be reading everything for it to be fair, I just don't think it sounds possible unless mylot's admin are huge, they'd have to have as many admin as there are members for it to work.

That sounds like a wonderful idea, sort of like an employee of the month. I think that it would best be suited that they pick like 5 or ten people every month, sort of like the best 5 or 10 people that month. They could choose them every month, and maybe have a employee of the year. Truly enough I don't think many people care about they're star, I don't care about mine. I find that it is rather bothersome at times, people think that if they don't have a 10 star that they're discussions aren't as good as other users. In my opinion the stars really are just a popularity rating, not a real good thing if you ask me.
