I, too, am allergic to mosquito bites. I swell up big time. My husband gets a bite, it itches for a half an hour and then the bite just totally disappears. With me, I get bites that itch for two weeks. Some swell up hugely. I spend most of my summer indoors.
However, there is a really good mosquito repellent made by a company called Watkins. They are a catalogue order company with independent sales representatives. I used this stuff on vacation. I was sitting at a picnic table eating and was surrounded by mosquitoes. They didn't come anywhere near me. Then I went to the washroom and washed my hands. I came out and got five bites on my hands before I had a chance to re-apply the lotion. It is the best stuff! Check www.WatkinsOnline.com.
When we do get bites I put Cortate (cortisone cream) on them to stop the itch. I also have to take Benedryl. If I get a lot of bites they will wake me up during the night.
As for household remedies, I heard that rubbing potato on bites helps but I haven't tried it myself.

Nope.
My grandmother would put salt on open cuts though even if it was bleeding and although that hurt and stung it made it a lot better in the long run.
I would suggest trying that though lol

I've heard household bleach works really well also. Just dab it on with a cotton ball.
My own remedy that I figured out as a kid was soda. Just regular Coke, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, whatever you have on hand. I still remember how I'd gotten bit up horribly one weekend while camping. I was absolutely miserable. Just by chance, I had a can of soda explode when I opened it and most ended up on my legs. It completely stopped the itching. Now I just dab the spots with a little bit so I don't end up a sticky mess. The neat thing is, just a couple years ago I was reading an article about mosquito bites and it mentioned that soda IS an effective way to stop itching so it isn't just me that figured that out. The article mentioned that dark colas work the best.

My oldest daughter is allergic to mosquitos and she her bites will swell a lot and itch intensly. I did find a home remedy that worked for her and it is what we have used for about 10 years now.
Take a small amount of steak spice and mix it with a little bit of water to make a fairly thick passte and put it on the bite. I will drain some but it does help.

Well, this is going to sounds complety weird but it works. use a little bit of stick deoderant on it. I don't know why but it heals it faster and stops the itching! Well it works for me anyways! ;)
