I have both the desktop and the laptop. I use the desktop now as a file server, but since getting my laptop, there are certain programs that I will run on the desktop but mostly I use the laptop. The laptops today can do as much as any desktop, and you can set it up exactly the same, use it as an entertainment unit, or as a mobile business computer. I have a second monitor I use when I am at home. I have wireless set up in the house, both for internet and for networking them together. The important thing is to make sure it is capable to run the programs that you want it to, you can even have a gaming laptop.
The one negative I know of with the laptop is that it can get hot. So if you are running multiple programs or a graphic intensive game, then you need to get a laptop tray or fan so that it doesn't overheat.

As for the laptop overheating, I hear you! been meaning to get a fan for awhile, although not a huge problem, I am always afraid something will short out if it left on for several hours, yet I have not had any problems that a general restart couldn't fix! I sometimes put a small book under the laptop so that the air can circulate freely. Looks funny, but it works until I can get the fan!

If you can afford it, get the laptop. And, again, if you can afford it, get the wireless hookup. mainly because you can take your laptop anywhere, and it becomes a part of you! oftentimes when I am bored at the desk, I will take my laptop in the kitchen, while doing dishes, or cooking or something, and it definitely has been well worth the extra expense. If you are a student, the value goes up even further! It is definitely a worthy investment.

Hello there,
It's really depend on how you will use it. Laptop is ideal for its mobility with less crashes while desktop is ideal for some intensive computing (by means of computer use). And it also depends on how much you will invest for it! Good luck.
