We have 2 retirement accounts through my husband's employer that we add to every payday. We hope to be able to start another retirement account soon or at least up the amount we're currently contributing because we don't think Social Security will still be around when we hit retirement age. We do contribute to Social Security every paycheck (both of us) of course, but that's because the government forces us to. So we view that as a tax instead of a contribution.
As it stands right now we're well on our way to having everything set for retirement, but we figure you can never be too cautious when it comes to this kind of thing so we're always looking to add more.

I can't blame you there, I am certainly freaked by it all.
I have worked for 21 years thinking I would get a good start on my social security at age 14. boy, was I wrong! now to hear about the system just makes the government look like a joke. and then, my first chance at a savings program was the wonderful MCI WORLDCOM scam, back in 2000.
I pulled out thinking something was wrong, and boy! am I glad I did! I had started an aggressive fund that began to plummet. I watched as everyone else's stocks tumbled and there were employees who lost hundreds of thousands of dollars. I'd prefer to forget that, but it is hard.

I'm 73, and retirement is not a consideration. I love my work and couldn't live if I was idle. I have a winter home in Texas, and a summer home in Canada. I keep bees in the summer in Canada, and take some time off, in south Tx., in the winter. We have a Federal Health Care Plan in Canada so I don't have to worry about the Cost of Medical Care. I do Yoga everyday, and haven't had a medical checkup in 30 Years. I'm ready to meet my Maker, but am having too much fun to go right now. I believe in Quality of life, not Quanity of Life. Life is What you Make it. If its not fun don't do it!
