Our phone has a speaker built-in with it. Sometimes we use it if the call is urgent and needs to be heard by the whole family. Sometimes we use it to eavesdrop when a prank caller drops by.
Our phone is a Siemens model and is written in German so I don't usually understand the stuff written on our phone but I know how to use it anyway. How about your phone? Does it have a speaker that came with it?

We have a fax/phone that does have a speaker in it. The only time I use it is to see if someone else is on the line before I pick up the cordless and start to dial.

I agree, I do that oftentimes too. It's a great help especially if you want to know if the phone you are calling is ringing.

I have also caught my kids listening to each other talk on the phone with their friends by using the speaker phone. I don't allow this, so if they get caught, they are in trouble.

Wow, they are sure in trouble with that. They must learn to respect privacy, but you're going good with that.

no my land-line telephone doesn't have any built-in speaker phone in it, but my cell phone has a built-in speaker phone in it.

Built-in speakers are awesome too. My cell phone has one, but I use it occasionally when I need to make a call for our internet service provider when our internet fails to load sometimes.
