fOR ME, IT IS BET TO EXPRESS the messge of helping build my nation by doing and saying it. Sharing by showing others a positive mental attitude at all times in spite of the sarcasm, cynicism and all sorts of negative mentality everywhere, is my contribution in helping the country.

The best way to help your country is to pay taxes promptly and become a good and law abiding citizen. I think this is one of the needed things to show how your country mean a lot to you.

Oh Deane not all citizens agree to paying taxes. They feel they are burdened by the government by paying taxes. May we have more Deanes!

The rain suddenly pour heavily yesterday and it causes flooding the metro manila and it was very quick. What i noticed are the garbage that comes out of the open canals and thereby littering the street. I wonder, why we cannot do something, and little by little , i am helping the government thru seggregation of garbage and disposing them in the proper places. I teached my kids to do the same. in our backyard, my wife and I separate the plastic, cans , botlles and the degradable materials. Lately , i ask the kids to carry those recycables and we sell them to the junkshop. at first, i saw the hesitance in their action being ashamed of their friends that they are selling some junk. But this time, i noticed my youngest girl collecting used paper materials, i asked her why? she told me that she will collect all those used bond paper and later be sold to the junkshop. I am happy for that, not only that ive teached them how to disposed garbage properly, but in some little way, they are helping the government. thank you and good day.

Thanks also for your comment. It's heartening to hear from you that even your kids are taught how to segregate. In their own little way, they are becoming good future citizens of our country. As I said, majority of our countrymen are thinking that the government should be the one to do all these gargantuan tasks but hey, we should do our part also. Teaching kids to pick up the litter, even a piece of candy wrapper, will go a long way in inculcating to them good values. And hey there's no shame in saving all these recyclables and selling them later. There's money in the garbage!

well i guess one thing to help our country is to be an active citizen in our society. to be as such, i strongly believe that one should focus more on his interests and passion and do better in their field of specialization. in that way, they become constructive citizens in our country and it helps a lot.

At your age, it's nice to hear such things from you (my son is 19 and he speaks like you). Yes, you're right that you can do good to your country in your own field of specialization (like my son is into IT and he uses this to teach young dropouts to be e-literate.) Or better still, we should first change our attitudes towards our country, (for example to throw away those legacy of our ancestors that we should vote for those people whom we have "utang-na-loob" or debt of gratitude). For you, young people, you have to start your generation with a fresh meaning of "citizenship" and "ask not what the country could do for you, but what you can do for your country." (President John F. Kennedy)
